Any one make a 28mm scale Bear and Mountain lion?
« on: November 28, 2010, 12:56:35 AM »
Having added a rattle snake as a random event to my wild west game, I am keen to add more.

Does anyone make a Bear (preferably raised on its hind legs in an angry about to eat you way) and a Mountain Lion?

North Star do a "charging" Grizzly:

Although it does look a bit like it is about to do what a bear usually does in woods. lol

They also do a Puma:

Steve Barber do a rearing Cave Bear, which I own and painted for the same reason (although he was only ever used to attack some vampire-hunting Vatican Hit Squad.

http://www.sbarber-models.clara.net/main.html (then click on "25/28mm ranges", and select "Prehistoric Animals")

Works good with most 28mm figures (mine are mainly Foundry).

EDIT: Postal, we do have a working "Modify Post" functionality. Please feel free to use it in the future. :)

Foundry does a couple of different bears, including one on its hind legs. They do pumas, lynxes and leopards as well.

Thanks guys - I love the North Star puma figure.

I couldn't find any bears on the Tiger Miniatures list... but I might have missed it.

The Foundry bears are nice - just need to find someone that stocks them and has cheaper postage than foundry  :(

The Steve Barber one is good, as are the Reaper ones (a bit pricey for the reaper dire bears though... especially for a random encounter that might not happen  ;) )

I will probably go with the North Star bear even though it isn't in the pose I want... but it should still case fear in the players  :D

Many thanks for the help  :)

Caliver books stocks Foundry and even has free postage if you order for a certain amount. I believe it's GBP 16.50.

This is the one I use in my Old West encounters (and others) -

I think it's a very old Citadel "Werebear"! but it fits the bill ...

These might be on the small side, but check out Mega Minis (I think more 25 than 28 but for Animals?) - they have the widest range of creatures I've ever seen.  There site isn't the most user friendly but they sure have lots of critters.  Also, check out Irregular 25 mm range - they have quite a zoological menu.  And, again, scale can be less precise here and still work.  At least I think so.

Hope that helps.

I have the Foundry pack and I have to say, they are very nice figures. Sometimes they do postage inclusive stuff so if you wait for that you could still get them. Or, if you have to go past a certain amount put out a word for a group order and you might find that some of us locals will pitch in :)

I cannot help with the Puma ... Except WotC did make a female lion which was quite good.

Now for the bear....

I have this fig, and it was great to paint up.
Little small for a full massive grizzly, but it works well with my 28mm figs.  You will know that it is a bear.

Or try copplestone...
They had a few bears, but they are not on their site now. Drop them a line to see if they have any laying about.
