Useful stuff for conversions
« on: 11 December 2010, 04:04:05 PM »
Just saw these on the HF site - am always looking for spiral tubing....normally after seeing one of Bob Olley's mutant conversions

Looks like some sort of limited offer, so i'll be stocking up on some.

If you've got anything else useful for conversions, it might be useful to stick it on this thread, so we've got it in one place.

Well most of Hasslefree's conversion bits are exceptionally useful, especially the heads for those of us who like to play with greenstuff, but lack real talent!

Guitar strings also work well for these type of tubes or power conduits.
This is my boomstick!

Although for casting it can be a pain, because it likes to 'snap' out of place. Bendy pewter ones are farrrr better.

Very useful stuff, although why Hasslefree are selling it as "limited" I have no idea!

You can of course use guitar string -I do, and have done- but it can be hard to bend and cut neatly if you only need shorter lengths. Also, the thicker (usually base) strings are very hard indeed to cut and work with. The pewter ones are much easier to file, cut, bend and pin.

If any folks don't already know, Dragon Forge Design (run by a smashing chap called Jeff Wilhelm) sells them in packs of varying sizes as well as a variety pack containing five of each size. I received some these this week, and they are very well cast and easily worth their price.

As an aside, Jeff's bases are also the best-cast I have ever purchased (and I've bought from most of the usual suspects), and are pressure-cast in a smooth, dense, high-quality resin with none of that horrible gritty filler you often see - so what you see on his website is exactly how they come (but not painted, obviously...).  Very highly recommended, and I'm super-fussy about these things!  ;)

presumably as there is currently a limited amount in stock...?

On the subject of resin bases, the Fenris Games bases are equally impressive - HF also stock a number of their productions, and as they are UK based, you won't get stiffed by customs, if you order a whole load of stuff in one go.

Ahhh.  Good to know.  I've never cast anything, so was unaware.

I don't cast anything, because my home-made stuff is crap.   lol
