Derfel Cadarn
« on: December 19, 2010, 01:32:23 PM »

Young Derfel.I´ll do one with a facemask when my Westwind order arrives. This one is a slightly converted GB Athurian Charakte.r, I added the cloak, wolftail, beard and hair. Shield is handpainted.

Another great mini. I love the shield, I always imagined it as a fully filled in star but yours is so much nicer! Really loving these minis.

Beautifully painted, especially the sheild. The Warlord Chronicles are my favourite novels, well done, keep 'em coming.

I concur!

What's wrong with this forum. This whole extremely well painted Dark Age-related miniatures are not doing well for my "I will not get a single Dark Age Miniature until I've ended at least one project!"...

Just out of curiousity what rulesset are you using for them? I'm still looking for a nice dark age skirmish rulesset that I like.

Duncan, there's a really pleasent one released by an italian :)
At least I found them satisfying on a small skirmish level. Which this period mostly is about.

I use Song of Arthur and Merlin, mostly because my chief adversary is 7yrs old! Gives quite a satisfactory feel however. Mass battles, I would use WAB Age of Arthur. Smaller scenarios and a wealth of period info, and pretty pics!

I use WAB for big battles as it works really well in this period and Age of Arthur is a brilliant supplement.

Brytenwalda looks great, but I haven't played it yet.

I am actually currently writing a rule set for 'big skirmishes' (30-60 models per side) that is influenced by bits of T&T, LOTR and WAB. It's my first ever go at rule writing, so will probably be utter rubbish, but if anyone fancies a copy to playtest, rip apart and generally mangle til it works (or til it drops...whichever comes first  ;) ), drop me a PM with your email address and I'll email you the first draft on completion, which I anticipate being shortly after Christmas...just have to write a couple of sample army lists and a couple of test scenarios and we'll have enough to play with...
