Awesome!

I'm supposed to be going to a local war-games convention at the start of next month and have been toying with buying some pirate stuff......
This is very inspirational , thank you.

The ceramic casting sounds interesting. How does it paint up, I'm assuming the finish is not like proper ceramics  :)
cheers
James

You're of course correct, James. It paints up like any other hardened plaster stuff but will not absorb so much paint. Regarding hardness it is like ceramics.

Are you familiar with dental plaster? Is it the same?

It's not the same, but dental plaster is reputed to be of similar hardness, something like shore hardness 4. I'd say, it's cheap enough to buy one kilo of Stewalin and give it a try. Might be that dental plaster is a bit cheaper.

It's good to see someone not afraid to give casting a go and by the looks of it make a great success of it. I think the scale of projects like this call for it and you have given me food for thought about a Khartoum project I'm tinkering with... Many thanks for the step by step..a real inspiration.

Beautiful work so far.
Can't wait to see more!
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

After a couple of weeks without time for this project, I'm back now with some new pics from recent work. The second level bastions had to be constructed to finish the main area of the fort. But how to come to a second, lower level from the last step of work? Just raising the first bastions to some higher ground:

Then the main ramp with attached stairs was glued together from small strips of Selitron and thick plasticard. These ramps were used to pull and push the heavy guns from ground level to the upper levels of the bastions, and of course for cannon balls and powder kegs.

The new bastions got their battlements, and I tested a colour combination on the ramp, which had to be painted anyway at this stage, as it will get partly overbuild with a building and later painting would be nearly impossible.

Next pic shows the first steps in getting a second ramp to the upper bastions. The gradient is a bit steep due to scale restraints, but I hope it won't be that prominent when wraped into it's walls.

Now some views from different angles showing the complex for the main part of the fort. In the meantime I've glued this to a 5 mm MDF-board as it will now be vital to have everything firmly in place. Next project parts will involve more than one single component and I'll go into the first details. Hopefully not until some more weeks ...  :)

Really fantastic work even at this "early" stage. If I can though, I would like to see a figure with your next WIP shots. It will give a better idea of the size of the whole Bastion.
