First modified VSF walker for Spanish on Venus
« on: January 07, 2011, 10:04:21 PM »
I have the http://cgi.ebay.com/Wild-Wild-West-Dr-Loveless-figure-x-toys-/270686845188?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f06317904#ht_500wt_1156 toy with Dr. Loveless removed (I see a statue to the new "God" potential here) from the top and now I am working on finding a box structure to fit between the legs for the "pilot/gunner" station (I would put it on top but I have the "launcher" intact and hope to keep it that way [360 degree arc.])

Suggestions for the size of the Pilot/Gunner station?  I musing OG and Pal Partha 25 mm figures for infantry and cavalry.

Should I make it an automaton instead?  Or a remote control vehicle?

Any ideas where to get a compatible boiler for power?

Gracias,

Glenn

I used mine to make a clockwork howdah. Mostly plastic card and a sprue frame with a locomotive cow catcher flipped upside down to form an armored prow.

This is what I did: The Belborough Mrk1 Mechanised Steam Walker requisitioned by the Royal Navy and used extensively on Venus.

You're removing the boiler/stack/engine on there? Too bad; the Dr. Loveless that came with the Derailer tank didn't have the engine, but I've often seen this version left intact, with something like an Armorcast turret added.

Not truly 360 degrees, but it's small enough we'd never quibble about it.

I'd think a suspended pilot house would be damn tricky to fit in the small space between the legs.

Wish I had a derailer one handy to offer to swap. I've got one, but you've heard me whine about finding stuff before. ;->=

Yes the boiler can stay, I realize despite it' small size, this is SF... it's simply "extremely efficient."   Or short range...

So that, (and changing the design) certainly would be good.

Perhaps a small remote control turret (or turrets) * below and some kind of fighting platform above would work better.  Maybe his "pistol" could be in a mini-turret below.  Re-think time is now being implemented.

Gracias,

Glenn

* or a swing seat with with an armed figure to protect the legs close in?

I have three of them. Two have been converted so far. I have just cut away the Dr Lovelace figure & replaced it with a turrent collar & the onion dome turrent from Stonehouse Miniatures. The first one has a heavy collar & is mounted with a gun shield & cannon. The second is on a lighter collar & I am building a Gardener gun out one of the rifle slots in the turrent. Pictures up soon. I also have several of the Burger King spider walkers in various stages of convertion.

What turrets from Armorcast do you use?  Are they available separately from vehicles?

Gracias,

Glenn
