Avatar in HOTT

More a mind experiment then anything else, tough with the low requirements for HOTT2 I might actually do it.

James Cameron Avatar as inspiration for two Hordes of the things armies. Mainly the last battle in which the indigenous creatures aid the cause of the natives.

Now I am thinking 6mm, since that is what's on my mind at the moment, but there are many other options. Obviously the navi could come from 8-12mm fantasy miniatures, in those scales something one can get away with.  lol But this could perhaps work for other scales as well.

Now where I mainly was wondering at you guys idea's is the units and their appropriate rules, I could think of quite a few but perhaps you guys can figure out some other fitting combinations?

Humans
Airships, for VTOL's obviously, could also be dragon.
Artillery I dont think there are any in the movie, but a big gun would be appropriate.
Behemoths For their large power armors.
Shooters For any footsoldiers.
Magicians A bit of a stretch, but one of these could represent high tech gizmo's?

Na'Vi
Flying hero Jake sully, I originally thought dragon for him, but the dragon rules are written to represent cowardly megalomaniac super lizards.
Flyers obviously.
Riders again.
Behemoths I recall some pretty darn large creatures fighting on the side of Pandora.
Beasts Naturally.
Warband I think these represent best the fighting style of the Na'vi
Lurkers Indeed, beasties.
Sneakers I think this one might be nice for the further heroes of the Na'vi cause, springing clever attacks at the hart of the enemy? Else beasties again.
Clerics There was some mojo going on in the movie, and this can represent that if wanted.

So does anybody else have some cool suggestions for this? Personally I can really see this working, but perhaps I am wrong? Do point it out if so.

I hope the Na'Vi kick human butt!!!

Nice idea. I love the movie and the HOTT rules.
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Artillery could be tanks of some sort? I seem to recall some floating tanks?

As for the Na'Vi, I would suggest reducing the amount of different unit types. You won't get that many different units into a 24AP army comfortably...

Strongholds? Na'Vi would obviously be a massive tree. The Humans, I guess some kind of command base...

I agree that the Na'vi currently have to many units, I was making a list of what could be taken, not what would make an army.
If I were to actually do this I would probably let model availability dictate what units to take.

but to make a list,

aerial hero 6pts Jake on his big lizard.
riders x2  4pts  the not horses.
beast x2 4pts   The dog like things.
warbands x2 4pts Unmounted Na'vi
flyers x2 4pts   The smaller flying lizard things.
Lurker x2 2pt  All manner of sneaky beasties.

There can be some switching around, depending on models.
Lurkers would really seem like a must have for this army to me at least, it represents that feeling that creatures can jump out of the jungle and kill you at any moment. Sneakers can cover this as well, but are more expansive and I cant really visualize what they would be considering the rules they have.

--- Might these be Shooters? They were awesome with their bows.

I love the army list in the rules and on "Stronghold". But I am sometimes at a loss as to were to get the minis for some.

I was thinking about that, but shooters are supposed to represent archers who work in close formation and fire in volleys, I think the rulebook even describes them as better then historical archers. This doesn't really cover how I see them, or remember then anyhow. That being said if you wanted to you could easily replace them, But I think its interesting to make it so the two armies have no of the same units, this hides the simple system a bit as well since that way it seems like every units has its own rules.

I think warband is just right. It's a mixture of weapons in a tribal formation. Perfick.  ;)
