ACW 15mm WIP
« on: 16 January 2011, 04:19:30 PM »
Here's 7 x 30 figure OG/BH regiments.  The two on the right were done about 10 years ago.  The other five, plus the command and artillery were done last month.

Very much a WIP. (The light coat of dip I brushed on is still drying on some of them.)  Just did a simple block and dip with these much like my recent DAK project.  I think this approach really suits this period.

Finished the bases on one regiment last night.

This is almost all the infantry for now. I will do Berdan's as well as some individual skirmishers shortly. I'll also paint a couple of zouave regiments, just for fun at some point, but these won't be for awhile. To complete my initial Union force I'll paint two more guns with crew and two cavalry regiments, along with their dismounts.

I've laid out a similarly sized Confederate force which I have partly prepped. One regiment done and ready to grit and flock at this point.

Nice work 8)

Which rules are you going to use with these figures?

Thanks. I'm going with Black Powder to start. I'm curious about Regimental F&F. Any thoughts?

Here's my first CSA regiment:

Abu,

Very nice.  I have about 1800 figures painted for this period and I'm toying with rebasing them into much larger units similar to the size you are doing.  As to rules, I'm probably going to work up my own.  I've arrived at a place where I think rules tend to get in the way of having a good time with the figures - and that's what I got into the hobby to do.  Thus, simple - really simple - rules that give a tactical feel but allow more "play."  Sacrilege in certain corners, no doubt, but its where I've landed.  And I like it! :o

Abu,
Figures look mighty impressive...can you just confirm that you single coated them and then dipped and that was that!Apart from matt varnish at the end I presume?
They are stunning and as you say look extremely realistic for this period...great stuff..keep us posted and would love to see the two armies finished when you get a chance
Cheers
Kev
