Looking at the discussion about Warzone and how everybody was having nostalgic feelings, I wondered what other old games are around that people play...

Remember this one? Aahh the good old days!

Before I even knew about the "companythatshouldnotbenamed" I bought this one...a little simple but I love the minis! Especially the Dreadnaughts!

Space Hulk ? No no no no!

That was Space Crusade! Made by MB back in the 80s!

I still have two copies of the game and all as good as new, even a set of unpainted minis...

Those were the days...I think I have to paint this now!

Ha! I bought my brother a boxed set of Space Crusade Eldar as a souvenier of my trip to Europe. If I had been smarter, I would have stocked up, my inability to read Italian notwithstanding (although, in a pinch, it's pretty easy to figure out what a "Spada della Forze" or "Lascannone" are.)

Wasn't there a "Space Crusude" and a distinct "Advanced Space Crusade", or was that just Heroquest ?
I remember the add on sets - very useful for extra figures.
You still sometimes find them on car boot sales etc, but getting quite scarce.

Yes, there was also an "Advance Space Crusade", where the evil empire introduced the Tyranid Warriors and the Marine Scouts... The game was about boarding a Tyranid Hiveship to destroy it crippling its internal organs. It had rules to play the game with almost every GW mini available at the time...

Yes, the good old days...

You can see info about the game in Boardgamegeek.com (including some Space Marine pics uploaded by me)

Isn't that weird...back then I saw all the new stuff that came out and thought the game and especially the miniatures were boring, and now 15 years later I find them really cool. Why is that so?
I even think the miniatures are more "charming" than the "over the top stuff" you can buy now.

 :?:

PS Went through my cupboard yesterday and noticed I have also all the expansion packs (Eldar and Dreadnaught)
I gotta paint some stuff

Both. The odd thing was the Advanced versions of Heroquest and Space Crusade by GW were completely different rule systems from the MB versions. They just had the name in common and background.

I still like the Advanced Space Crusade rules and game. I always enjoyed it as a boardgame.

Ha! I recently acquired a few (2 or 3) of those dreadnaughts in a trade.
If anyone would be interested in these figs I'd happily trade them.

If so, please send me a PM!

I've still got tons of stuff from assorted bits of early 40K/Space Hulk/Space Crusade. Mostly picked up in trades or small shops around the UK, including my favorite of a knight with sword wearing a pair of sunglasses!

Rogue Trader and 40K 2nd ed. were both pretty ace and the original plastic marines were the bomb. In fact I think the old marines, nostalgia aside, are still better than the current ones. They had so much character and the way their legs were you could make these awesome poses. Plus they had bayonets Corporal Jones would be proud of and awesome looking pistols.

I've also got some figs from a long dead game in the 90's called Havok. No idea how to play it but some of the minis were neat and they had these cool stickers to put on the bases.

I do like the original plastic Marines, those chainsaw bayonets are great and the boltguns were a much more sensible size, even if the mag was in a daft place.
