[Tekumel] Close Combat preview
« on: January 22, 2011, 06:19:35 PM »
Some may have missed it, but I recently posted an example of how close combat works in A Band of Joyous Heroes:

Based upon 2HW mechanisms (CR3-Swordplay, with some tweaks.)

I enjoy Swordplay (amd most THW games) and would be interested in seeing more of the combat tweaks you propose - are you publish the tables here now?

I have also been thinking about tweaking things -   if desired you can use some of your successes to affect your opponent

push back 1" for each success (towards a rooftop edge for example, into a fire, back over a low table, etc)

turnaround - ie: swap places 180 degrees (handy in a doorway fight/multiple melee) for 2 success dice.  Also, if a fight is on a stairway I would add an advantage die for the higher position - the turnaround would be advantageous here too.

Adding these options while the fight is carrying will offer dynamic movement and Hollywood style swordplay and derring do

Swordplay is quite bloody and designed not to have long, inconclusive combats but this may add some extra colour during the early dice offs.

No dear, they are not toys, they are models

some good stuff there, similar to what I was thinking but more evolved

but I like the idea of spending dice earlier in the combat

I look forward to more in the future
