Ideas for new 'gangs'...
« on: 03 February 2011, 03:29:24 PM »
I had a pretty funny idea over the weekend when I was painting up some Kit Kat Club figs....

How about a "Beach Blanket Bingo" style of gang?  Kinda like a bad Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon leading Meathead and the rest of the surfer gang...

I was planning on using some Copplestone Future War' Babes in Bikini's for the girls http://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/range.php?range=FW but none of them have the likeness of Ms. Funicello or Mr. Avalon....  yet...

Any other ideas for new mobs?

There's a whole ruck of inspiration out there in movie world. BBB was a 1965 (even 'Beach Party' was 1963) film and while I'd be ecstatic at the range covering the early 60's, it's a touch outside the mid-late 50's milieu set for AC57. But sure some 'no good soifing bums' would be ideal to fight the Ratz n' Mice 8th Street Greasers.

How about the Coalwood, WV Rocketry Club (re: October Sky)?
You've got some dedicated young men, some of whom built up their muscles having worked in the mine, one of which is a math geek/genius,  and the entire industrial capacity of the coal mine machine shop and high school chemistry lab with which to manufacture rockets and missiles.
Did I mention that the club knocked down a Rooskie bomber with a barrage of their rockets?  Captured the crew and salvaged the bomb load--Coalwood is now a nuclear player and has come to the attention of certain power-groups.
Ok, tell me just one more time: _Where_ am i going, and _Why_  am I in this handbasket?

And then there is the gang from "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis", Dobie, his father Frank (war veteran),  Maynard G. Krebs the Beatnik, Zelda, Thalia, Milton Armitage (rich kid with lots of toys), et al.
The TV series debuted in 1959, but the Max Schulman stories date back to 1953, so the characters are still period-correct.

Set in the Korean War, so I suppose it's valid, but on that basis we could have the crew from 'Happy Days' too.  ;)

How about a raid on a brewery?
Use TVAG's brewery set?

Use a conjunction of set #8 and #14...

Just saw "Grease" on the tube today: another Greaser gang (the "T-Birds"), their chicks, and, of course, "Greased Lightning" are on the streets looking for food, ammo, and gas.
