28mm German WW2 Cavalry in Plastic
« on: 06 February 2011, 01:05:54 AM »
Hi I have been experimenting with using Perry ACW horses, French Hussar legs and Warlord German Infantry to make German Cavalry. The first two look promising but still need tidying up.

I'm going to make about ten of them but have no idea of how many would be in a section or what weapons they would be carrying, ie would they have an LMG?

Looks brilliant!
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Oh I say- those do look good. Even if the officer looks like he's wearing waders...  lol

No idea on their disposition, the only WW2 German Cav I ever really noticed were early war SS and they had very little equipment to start with.

Try the very excellent http://www.axishistory.com if any one knows they do, perhaps ask on the forum.

Great idea and execution

Osprey's Axis Cavalry of WW2 gives a number of 13 enlisted men per section in1939, including one MG34 light. Also mentions that until 1941 each troop carried 2 Panzerbüchse 39 anti-tank rifles.

Hope this helps.

Thanks all. The photos really make them look bad at that size , but the Officer does needs some Greenstuff to hide the waders  ::) I managed to break the really thin rifle even before the rider was glued to the horse  :-[ maybe I should get some metal ones.

WOW! what a nice conversion (and patchwork! ^^ )!

i really like the final effect of the officer!

but i'm always sad for the acw cavalryman with no horse, the hussar with no leg and the legs of the germ... maybe you can make a hussar with german legs and a acw soldier on a french hussar horse! lol

Yep, the warlord plastic extremely thin kar98 is really easy to break. I personally experiment that :(
Anyway, I think metal weapons do not fit right on plastic german.
