SO before the trek to distant Temple this morning, I got another of the Von Kurst Pumpkin People based & ready for painting.
Once I got home I took some pics:

Great insight into your construction method - some fine GS sculpting skills on show!

Thanks, Fram. That was kind of you to say...I appreciate the morale boost.

Thanks, Globin. I'm glad you like it. My sculpting is coming along slowly...I don't think I'll be keeping the professionals up at night.
I delighted you found the early stage photos useful.

Last night I woke up with a cold. I fairly certain it will prove to be fatal. SO I only managed to do my white on black base coat on the latest Von Kurst Melon Men:

...the slightly turned Mushroom:

...there you have it.

Sorry to hear of your fatal cold, you will be missed.

I only recently joined LAF and this is one of the epic threads where I know I can randomly jump into the history and I'll always discover something delightful within a page or two. Great stuff.

I am of that age where it's difficult to tell if I am really dead or not anyway. I figure I'll just keep painting until they come & take me away.

WELCOME ABOARD! I hope your stay is a LONG & MERRY one!
Thanks for the reply, ecurtz...it is appreciated.
I'm glad to hear you are enjoying the stuff. I'll try to continue having interesting things to see.

I got the first splashes of color on the new Pumpkin Lads. The bases & Jack O'Lanterns are painted:
...the pole arms make photos a bit problematic:

...profiles (Mr. DeMille):

& a couple of the Mushroom:

...more tomorrow...probably.

Not sure if someone asked this before and it may come off as a bit newb-ish, but why do you go with the white over black undercoat? I mean I can understand the advantage, but does it make a difference on how the miniatures come out?

Also, this is a great thread with a lot of inspiration. I think I've been through it all twice now :D Awesome work!

Thanks for the kind reply, Maxromek. I am delighted you are enjoying the stuff.

There are a couple of reasons for the white over black. It's easier on my old eyes. The details are much more obvious.
The white makes the highlights brighter & the black deepens the shadows. This pays off with the bold (loud) colors I enjoy.

I don't mind repeating myself at all. Feel free to ask most any question about how or why I do something.

Awesome, thanks DeafNala.

I was thinking in terms of highlighting the lights and deepening the shadows, but now I can also clearly see that it's useful for the details to pop up. I will give it a shot and see how it goes for me.

Cheers again,
Maks

I see you survived your cold (man-flu?), at least for now.  ;)

I love the pumpkinheads, I wish that kind of models were part of, say, Reaper's ranges (Bones models like these would be such a blast!).  :-*

Fantastic for Halloween gaming scenarios, and the likes (my Christmas Wars project springs to mind, also. Well, I have a lot of scarecrows, some even with pumpkin heads, to paint, so I shall probably bee fine  lol
Ask at the LAF, and answer shall thy be given!

Thanks for the reply, Argonor. It does look like survival is a possibility.
I'm glad you like the Pumpkin Heads. I'd love to have the Goblin parts available again. For that matter, a range of Pumpkin Heads with interchangeable parts would be great.
Reaper would be a good outfit to do the kits. They are a bit dense; SO they'd have to be convinced it was their idea all a long.
