perhaps I got the one made by the "can't be bothered rather be on the dole YTS trainee"

'fraid not. I've had to put one of these together along with a couple of warhounds and they are awful kits, the resin is low quality and prone to serious warping after assembly. Looking at some of the detail, they look a bit rushed as well  :? ::)

I look forward to seeing the finshed item though, your painting is something rather special  8)

cheers

Well that makes me feel a little better although also makes me sad about ever considering actually buying one :(

also strong praise indeed mate thanks :)

Progress so far

Firstly a decent picture of the pilots as previous ones have been a little dark for my liking

next it is all blacked up!

Looks pretty dont it :D

but also I am massively pleased with my effort to sort out the mismoulds and general non-fittiness...particularly this

the most of the area outlined in red had to be "resculpted" same on the other side of the ship and all on the top between the two sides (viewable in the picture of the front view of the thunderhawk) reckon it is hard to tell it was grey stuff sculpting...well i like to think so anyway.

Also though I would link this....

It is my Black Templar Thread on Librarium Online and has been going for 3 years now (since I started painting) and has plenty black and white goodness including the warhound titan that was painted for Golden Demon but then broke, and hence why I have this thunderhawk

*EDIT*

I also should be getting my new computer tomorrow so I might disappear off the net for a couple of days whilst I set everything up

Right well there has been progress on the Thunderhawk in the background.

It now has 3 massive freehand maltese crosses basecoated on it.

However during work over the weekend we hit a bloody iceberg!!! WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST!!!

Despite having washed it 4 or 5 times the big wings aparrantely would hold the undercoat and it started to peel off........

I have since re-undercoated have applied to coats of black paint mixed with matte varnish which has given a very hard wearing base without comprimising detail. If that doesn't work I am going to set the bloody thing on fire and throw it out the window.

I thought the idea of a kit was that it's supposed to be easier than scratch-building.

You want melted resin all over you pal?  You will look like a plague marine by the end :D

I hereby promise I will film the whole thing if it comes to that, after all it would immortalise me!

Sadly this my friend would have been easier had I actually lived in the ice age discovered how to make plastic and THEN how to inject mold it to make sheets of plasticard to scratch build it with.......I can honestly see why they gave me the damn thing for free :)

I have had that problem with resin, too.  Even undercoated it in rust paint and it still peeled off.  Anyone solved this conundrum?

Well I am not sure if it has totally resolved the problem but the thing I did with the re-undercoat and then matte varnish mixed with black paint seems to have done the trick as there is no more peelage and the paint seems nice and tough.

But then it seemed fine until this weekend..........

I will be massively annoyed (not sure this is a strong enough word) if I finish painting it to the best of my ability and it starts peeling again.

*edit*

Also I have noticed that with my studio McVey and Kingdom Death models, both which are resin there are no problems, they seem to come pre-washed from the company as there are definately no mold release on them.  Think Forgeworld should take note on customer service......

Well, I was hoping that I'd be able to catch it before greater harm is done....
If it wouldn't work out, paint me in proper nurgle colours and put me on your gaming table ;)

Interesting, your thread has reaffirmed my conviction that while the forgeworld models look nice, they are infact too often miscast, ill fitting, overpriced tat.
Odd thing is I still get tempted every now and again  lol

Same, but trust me I am seriously wishing I had my money back rather than being greedy and going for the thunderhawk.
