Even so, you’ve got to be out of your mind to spend that kind of money.

I agree personally, but whoever does buy the thing will presumably have enough disposable income and desire to own it to make it worth their while to them at this moment.  And who knows, ten or twenty years down the road maybe someone will offer the new owner twenty grand for it and we'll be the ones who were out of our minds?

Considering how many of us in this hobby are routinely told we waste far too much money, time and effort on toy soldiers, do we really want to call someone else nuts because they're willing to pay for this thing?  Seems like you're bound to put a stone through your own glass house in the process.

Not disagreeing, but Vanguard's 6mm versions are pretty nice too.

I remember seeing those advertised in White Dwarf when I was a teen back then £400 for a model aircraft was more money than I had to my name.  To be honest it seems such a ludicrously impractical thing to cast in metal- it must weigh a ton and be a pain in the back side to assemble and transport ( there is a Youtube video where it took a group of 4 people to assemble the damned thing).

Yes back in the day it cost $650.00 US. Sqidmar has a good video has a good discussions of its origin.



Check it out and watch his build videos as well it was a very difficult task.

Wish them luck with it, its an amazing piece of recent hobby history.
 
I am sure if someone successfully buys it, they will treasure it, but possible might not tell their partner how much it really cost..

My skills then and now, still would not be up to assembling and painting one to do it sufficient justice

Inflation and finance wise, I could not afford it then, and I cannot afford it now, so somethings don't change.
