Time for first real post - Some tents inte the jungle
« on: March 05, 2011, 07:35:50 AM »
After been playing Warhammer Fantasy for a number of years I felt that I needed change.
So I bought a large lot of africans, explorers, chinese, russians(white and red).
A good start into pulp, but as I'm interested in the wacky VSF also then I thought I should
make some terrain that would be somewhat generic.

Enough talking and into the jungle we go.

The tents are from Renedra (two packs).

The jungle has been made from stuff bought in pet shops and other shops.
Add some tvigs, flock, sand and some other stuff found in my storage sheed.

Pretty good, and as you said, all that can be used in several different gaming periods and genres.

Your selection of jungle plans is very good and I have the intention to buy those renedra tents myself, as they appear to be a very good buy.

Now, to paint all that new models so we all can see them too.

Best wishes.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

Great stuff :-* :-*
The trees are really good. How did you make them? The tree leaves look real in some of the photos, are they plastic?

The palm trees were very simple. Tvig from garden. Two leafs from an aquarium plant set.
They were not clear plastic like the rest of the vegetation. They were more textile like.
Then use the glue gun on both ends and the tvig with leafs was stuck on the base.

I have seen that many suggests painting the clear plastic jungle terrain, but I think they look
jungly enough anyway (from a distance) and I admit that I am too lazy for that also.

I would also like to make some larger/thicker jungle trees, but I have not understood what people use as
leafs on these kinds of trees. And I need to find better tvigs for them. Have to wait until summer.

Really nice mood setting you've manged there.

I've had my Rendera tents sitting arouns unpainted for a while now.

How did you achieve that lived-in look?

VERY NICELY DONE! You've definitely captured the Jungle feel...making proper environments for our Mini Adventurers is one of the more satisfying aspects of the craft.

Started with a yellow-brown colour and then went with two incresingly lighter yellowish white colours.
Then a black wash and after that repeated the lightest colour used.
The pictures make the tents look better than in reality. Have to thank my wife for her use of the camera.:)

Great painting on the tents.

I only wish I could find them in the US.

Very nice jungle plants as well.

Thanks for posting the pics.

Those are great looking tents, well suited to all sorts of pulpish and other mayhem!

Architects of War sell the Rendera tents in North America - they're based in "MD", whichever state that is (Maryland?).

How big are the Rendera bell tents? None of the online listings I've seen for them, even on Rendera's own website, lists a diameter or height!

The bell tents are roughly 5cm high, and 5cm diameter.
Very nice they are too.

Very atmospheric photos. You feel like you're out there stalking whoever's in the camp.
I eventually painted my Renedra tents - bought at Salute when they were first launching them - late last year. A bit of a rush job as I suddenly decided I ought to model the Confederate camp behind their positions for our ACW game. Now I want some more.
Yours look far more effective than mine. All I did was slap on some creamy coloured paint and give them a heavy brown wash as I was trying to do them quick the day before the game!
Keep up the good work.
