the Redcaps are realy good painted !!(better painted)
but I go for the Sentries because I like the story of the picture
Grimm
Grimm - good decision! I go for the pics which tell a good story too.
Bjorn - thanks. I really like your entry too. Think I just got a bit closer in with my camera!
Xeoran - thanks.
My painting technique is (in quick summary!) white undercoat, then a thinned wash of 50/50 black and flat earth to run into all the crevices, then wipe off excess to leave the highlights in white (a lot easier to paint than a flat black!).
Then I just paint starting with dark colours and gradually overlaying highlights. I mix my own colours using a basic palette of Vallejo and cheap hobby acrylics. So for instance, all the different shades of khaki on these models is mixed from black, white, olive green and flat earth.
I think the result is maybe a bit more subtle than 'the three colour method' - although the result is less striking at first glance. Which is why I always try to show close-ups as well. I leave more of the dark shade showing through than most, and I generally prefer to leave eyes as dark and menacing slits. But basically my technique is not all that different from the widely used method.
