1938VBCW Narrow Gauge
« on: April 27, 2011, 10:50:52 PM »
Originally from my post in GWP. Basically I was now rethinking whether I should rebuilt/start once more on N Gauge, as was that not established on this forum to be closer to Welsh narrow gauge in 28mm? As OO may be too big... and thoughts on the proportion on the loco please chaps :) Crappy pictures but... copy/pastaed my post below for ease.

"Its based on a Dapol 0-4-0, the chassis is almost on, but too small even for a narrow gauge 28mm loco on OO track. Sort of a botched, cheap easy to run scale.

I bulked out the chassis with rough armour from balsa wood, and that rises over the bottom of the cab, which can (just) accomodate a Renegade miniature standing up without the base - so I can fit some crew in the cab for a game.

Variety of parts used, and the odd bin on the left hand side of the loco will become a small coal bin. She's not massively armoured, it almost all focuses to protect running gear in a rough sort of way. This to reduce weight, due to the bulk of the armoured carriages she pulls, and not tax the bridges et al.

So theres plasticard, balsa wood, some Leman Russ parts and some aircraft undercarriage - but all of the Dapol kit has been used thus far. The carriage is based on a '10ft' model wagon kit by Ratio, very nice quality if a bit brittle for wargaming.

Armoured Carriage and Loco

The armoured carriage can take about 3/4 models on 25mm bases, but on 2ps it could take a good number more. In game terms, I think it could accomodate 5-6 men with rifles.

Size wise, the loco is 45mm wide, 95mm long (buffer to buffer) and 52mm tall, so I feel thats roughly right.

Carriage is bulkier at 45mm, 100mm (buffer to buffer) and 60mm tall. It has two long firing slits on both side, and one end of the carriage has a small rectangular firing slot.

I know the images are poor (webcam shots) as main camera is goodness-knows-where.

I'm currently considering 3 armoured carriages and a few wagons in narrow gauge.

And maybe moving onto a large O Gauge scratchbuild based on another tank engine after this is rounded off.

I rather like this following link for quality and cost.
http://www.smallbrookstudio.com/page_1201118902437.html - some rather tasty bases for less scratchbuilding.

Thoughts and feedback for my attempts thus far chaps, apologies if you squint!"

Get the feeling I should have gone to Specsavers...

Lovely little bash, should fit in perfectly I reckon. Especially given the variety of engine size on narrow guage lines.

Some of that small brook stuff is superb.
