Some Partizan Pics (2011)
« on: June 01, 2011, 10:01:38 PM »
Hi all,

I've uploaded a bunch of pics I took at Partizan. Focused mainly on my favourite tables, although I spent most of my time chatting up poor old James Morris over his marvellous Abyssinia table. lol

Worcester 1651 (fictitious scenario):

ACW Ironclad action from Peter Pig, IIRC:

Operation Barbarossa:

Abyssinia:

See all 66 pics in the Photobucket gallery:

Some great games there Chris, thanks for posting them. I wish I had gone now ::)

I'm HOPING that Chris doesn't know the difference between 'chatting to' and 'chatting up'...... :)

Thank you for posting the pics Chris, there are some very evocative shots in there.

Chris' English is impeccable, so it was very naughty of me to mock, but I think just this once he picked the wrong idiom ...with hilarious results.  :)

Curses! :o Once more, I am falling afoul of colloquial idioms being used with a different meaning than what I was taught at school (i.e., the meaning I learnt was "subjecting somebody to a barrage of shallow conversation without due restraint"). This was the early 1990s, so I cannot fathom if it should be taken as our English schoolbooks trying to be overprotective or just painfully unaware of colloquialisms. It wasn't quite "I say, Dick, I had a jolly gay time shopping for Fairy", but it's close, I guess.

Meant it jocularly, obviously, but the other connotation you are referring to I was indeed NOT aware of. Sorry for any inconvenience caused. I would make a "petard hoistage" joke if it wouldn't take on such an unfortunate meaning under these circumstances.  lol

Honestly, I'm really getting the impression I should get a smartphone just to be able to double-check with dict.cc before any conversation  :-X...

No offence taken, and I can assure you that I would struggle to say anything that clearly auf Deutsch! :)

Superb tables! I'm really impressed  :-* I particularly like the naval wargames table from peter pig. There's something about that table that I just love.

Thanks for sharing!
