Yggdrasil's Strange Aeons collection
« on: 02 June 2011, 11:09:22 AM »
Greetings!

My first Lovecraftian Miniatures.

I'm going to start with a picture showing the whole collection:

And here are the Threshold Agents:

My slimey version of a flying Horror.

A bunch of Ghosts:

Hounds of Tindalos by RAFM. I love the raptilelish look of those minitaures.

Serpentmen by Uncle Mike.

The King in Yellow (Frother's Lurkers in the Dark Set)
Luckily I started in the right time with Strange Aeons to safe one of those special sets.

A Dark Young of Shub Niggurath (the first Lurker I had painted)

And last but not least: A witch of the wilds (my first Try of Source Lightning)

greetings

(Ich wollte das ich meine auch so gut anmalen könnte :'( )
The vignette with the tindalos hound looks fantastic ;D (selfmade?)
I am also new in Strange Aeons and starting to collect my forces.
Have some cultists, serpentmen a formless thing and a shoggoth,

Danke :)

---------------------------------------------------------------
Thank You :)
The vignette is self made. I used a rogue bar fighter of Pulp Figures which I converted into a butcher (or Dockworker) for a better atmosphere. I removed the stonebase of the RAFM Dog to make it fit for the victim.

The other 3 models at the top of the set I use as irish gangsters for .45 Adventure while the one holding a shotgun will become a Deep One hybrid  8)

Greetings!

Sadly I couldn't take new pictures of the gaming table I'm working on for the last 3 days due to misplacing my camera  :?

But I can give you some information about my Threshold Agents:

Richard Edward Harrigan

Richard E. Harrigan is the main character of my little tale. His task is to stop a fiendish Cult of Shub Niggurath which is planing to summon the servants of Shub Niggurath, the dangerous Dark Youngs.
He starts the tale eqquiped with a Light Armoured Vest, a lucky Hat (well better say a lucky Umbrella which saved his clothes to become wet in many earlier situations ^^) and the standard eqquipment.
Chosen Skill: Lucky

Agent Nora Sullivan[/b]

Nora Sullivan used to be an FBI Investigator in earlier times. This changed after she followed a bunch of gangsters into a warehouse in Arkham. There she discovered that the gangsters are cultists who are working together with some shadowlike, tall and very thin creatures, lisping in strange languages. After arresting some of the cultists the Threshold get interested in her. Now she works for this agency, hunting strange cults and mysterious creatures.

She starts the tale as an Agent only using the standard eqquipment.
Chosen Skill: Characteristic Decrease (Resolve)

Professor Wilfried Mc Ellen[/b]

Not belonging to the Threshold Agency, Professor Mc Ellen give lectures of Prehistory at the Miskatonic University. He is a specialist in reading old and unknown languages.
One day Harrigan gave a stone tablet to Mc Ellen showing strange signs. This was the moment, Prof. Mc Ellen get involved into the myth, extremly interested in the knowledge about those unknown things.

Professor Mc Ellen is an Agent, eqquiped with a Holy Book.
I use the Holy Book to represent the elder sign at the base.
Chosen Skill: Read Language

Charlie "burnsides" Banks[/b]
Charlie used to be a fisherman. His ship was attacked by Deep Ones after getting to close to devils riff. Noone believed in his tales of fish storys except for Harrigan.

He is a Civilian, armed with Club (representing his very big fists ^^)

Not represented in the starting crew: (he will follow after the first game)
Vincent Barnaby[/b]

Vincent used to be an gentle, british noblemen. He moved to Arkham to take advantage of his heir. He inherited one of the big mansions in Arkham, not knowing that dark cultists walk abroad this mansion at full moon. Now he does everything to stop those rutheless beeings.
Barnaby is armed with a Rifle. (He will be the "sniper" of the Agents)
Chosen Skill: Characteristic Decrease (Dexterity)

Might I ask who produces that exquisite flying horror?
Is he a custom model?
I'd very much like to procure a specimen for my collection, if he is available to the public...

These are lovely, the shoggoth is EXCELLENTLY oozy~<3

nice minis to look at!

I have a question though.
This one-eyed worm-bat-like creature ... it looks like it is meant to be slimy, but just the mouth and the place, where it is standing is "slimed", was this meant to be? Maybe it is just walking through slime ... but if not, this would be a good opportunity to paint it with some gloss-varnish.

However - the really look quite nice!

Thank You for Your comments  :)

@ Hombre:
Unfortunately my modelling skills are not good enough to scratchbuild such a model.
But luckily this model is easy to buy and is cheap!  8)
Look for "D&D Large Chaos Beast" on ebay or at your lokal gaming store (near the collectable Miniature Games)
http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=large+chaos+beast&_sacat=0&_odkw=Roper&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

There are a lot of usefull D&D collectible Miniatures (especially in the "Unhallowed" and the "Underdark" Range). Look for the new "Roper" (perfect Avatar for the great old One Zhar!) and very nice Rat Swarms  8)

But I have to warn You! While these models are belonging to a collectable Miniatures Game, they are made of soft plastic. With the Roper, Chaos Beast and the Rats you have no problems because they are massive enough not to be bend easily. But with Humans and Humanoid Creatures there could be light problems with the legs. (It could happen that the colour goes of due to bending those models).

@B. Basiliscus:
The Worm used to be an "Mage Knight" Creature in earlier Days. There was a limited Range of Metal Minis for Mage Knight.
Maybe you are lucky to find one at ebay, look for "Crypt Worm"
http://cgi.ebay.com/Mage-Knight-Metal-WZK-547-Crypt-Worm-Spawn-Miniature-/120405176260

Of course I converted this model lightly. First I used Greenstuff to give it the Eye. This was easy to make due to the size of the upper mouth.
For the wings I used a winged plastic backpack of Games Workshop's Possessed Chaos Space Marine. Just cut away the midel part and glue the wings at the back of the worm. They fit perfectly, so you don't have to correct them with Greenstuff  8)

@ D@rth J@ymZ and Drachenklinge:
Both Creatures will become more slimey. It's the first time for me using water effect for Slime and therefore I started with little parts first.
Especially the One-Eyed Worm has to be redone, making it more slimey.

I like the idea of using gloss-varnish! With this the model will still look slimey but not too slimey. Thanks for this great Idea! :)

Ongoing Project:
Now I'm going to look for Firearms (Shotguns, Tommy Guns) and things like torches to convert my Westwind Brotherhood into Cultists.
I really really love those monks, they are just Awesome (I think I need some more afterwords for a Gothic Horror Range  lol)

what to build in detail:
1 Cult leader (eqquipt with a ritual dagger and a unholy artifact)
1 Tommy Gunner
2 with Rifles
1 with a double Barreled Shotgun
And of course I have to remove the crosses  lol

Greetings everyone.

I like to see a still budding collection, gives me hope I'm still in the running for getting a game of my own going! Got a question for you though Yggdrasil, that elder sign painted onto the base of your Threshold Agent (in the glowing blue), well how did you achieve the effect... and is it freehand?

I love the look of it so much I'm inspired to paint the symbol onto all of my Threshold Agents' bases to denominate them from the regular rank 'n' file Agents and Civilians. It just totally adds a wealth of character, and really singles out the model as a "somebody."

You are welcome :)

I used 3 different Reaper Paints from their "Core Colour" Collection (also known as "Pegasus Farben" in Germany)
Sapphire Blue
Sky Blue
Pure White

I started to sketch the Elder sign with the darkest blue tone (Sapphire Blue) with a thin line.
Then I made a 1:1 Mix of Sapphire Blue and Sky Blue to draw a thin line next to the first line (making the Elder Sign a little bit wider). Both lines should be connected.
Than I added more and more Sky Blue and Water to the Mix, making the new mixtures more and more fluid and of course brighter. I used those Mixtures to make the glowing effect. Starting with the first mixture to soften up the area directly around the Elder Sign. Than using a little brighter Mix to soften up the areas around the first Mix, and so on.
Its important that every new Mixture is more fluig than the one before to make the new layers more and more transparently.

The last Thing I did was to make a 1:1 Mix of Sky Blue and Pure White to redraw the Sketch of the Elder Sign.
