The great British knee in all it's glory
« on: June 16, 2011, 02:59:09 PM »
Inspired by Jeeves and Wooster's nemesis Roderick Spode and his Blackshorts, here is my newly-painted unit of Blackshorts for VBCW.

Firstly, I hope I'm not breaking any laws about displaying certain symbols - the armbands and cap badge should depict a black lightning flash, but my shaky hand can only manage a wobbly diagonal stripe! If this still offends, please let me know and I will replace the image  :)

The Blackshorts are on the march - the rebels will be crushed and the entire county of Herefordshire given over to the cultivation of radishes.

Bicycles! Umbrellas! Victory!

The riflemen are Gripping Beast, officer Artizan, Tommy gunner is Artizan with a Westwind head, while the beefy Lewis gunner is a Copplestone chap, also with a Westwind head.

I think you're pretty much on safe ground with the symbolism, it's suitably obscured and ill-defined from the position of the shots. You can always use MS paint etc to block it out if you're concerned though.

Nice work and an original subject, I like them... especially the apparent sneer on that 'rotter Spode' type in the centre. Thanks for sharing this!  :)

You're too kind  :)

I've a few more Blackshirts in the pipeline - mainly Westwind 8th Army chaps, with the odd Copplsetone and some Lead-Adventure fellow wielding a cricket bat...

Gentlemen - more knees for your viewing pleasure...

The previous lot I have designated as A coy, the Marches Blackshorts, made up from local recruits. this new lot are B coy, the Metropolitan Blackshorts - recruited from London by Roderick Spode and given more up-to-date kit, before being shipped out to the middle of knowhere by Mosely to keep them out of the captial!

Figures are mostly Westwind 8th Army. Lewis gunner and his mate are Copplestone with Westwind heads, and there's a spare Gripping Beast chap, also with Westwind head.

That's a top combo... don't think anyone else has hit upon using 8th Army so you get the shorts... Now about the great british root vegetable...

Hehehe, now that's a little trickier - maybe my next unit should be the Herefordshire Market Gardener's Militia  :D

A little support for our be-shorted friends (Blackshort lightning flash symbol on the condensor can airbrushed out, just in case).

More knee-tastic photos for your enjoyment - the Blackshorts' command group. (Photo edited to remove any contentious imagery)

From left to right: Medical officer (who's obviously been waving his syringe around too much!) (Westwind 8th Army officer with Westwind bare German head and scavenged syringe and medical bag); Albert, CO's batman (Gripping Beast); leader of the King Offa's Legion, Eustace Spode (Copplestone 'Jolly Good Chap' with TAG tin helmet); standard bearer (Westwind 8th Army with Westwind bare German head, Gripping Beast Roman standard and a strip of paper annoyingly cut too narrow); political officer and director of propoganda, Rodney 'Trouncer' Trudd, wielding 'Aunt Mildred' (Lead-Adventure 'Plynkes'); sniper (Gripping Beast); signaller (Westwind 8th Army and scratchbuilt flags).

Okay, the final unit in my Blackshort battalion - a Boys anti-tank rifle team!

(Basically a converted Westwind 8th Army Bren gun team).

I've also written a bit of backstory, which can be found on the GWP, here:- http://gwargamesp.18.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=5617
