What aircraft for VBCW?
« on: 12 July 2011, 06:30:10 PM »
Having done some more work on my first VBCW units, I'm in the planning stage for expansions and have been thinking about air support.  So what I'm wondering is what aircraft would be appropriate for the various factions.  So far I'm fairly certain that all the aircraft you saw in the Spanish Civil War (He 51, I-16, early 109s etc) might make an appearence, but I want to know what people would add.

plenty of british designs to choose from, without filling the skies full of me109s....

 ;)

Your best bet is to have a look here:

German planes over the fields of England? Such fiction!

Me and the boy slug prefer 1/72nd for 28mm which fits the game table really nicely and offers an economical and wide range of aircraft. You can also usually squeeze a pilot into them. Well into things like a Sopwith Camel.

This picture shows that the scale isn't too unpleasant to the eye, even though it's not VBCW, unless you find it unpleasant to your eye.

Work reasonably well next to vehicles

What we like most is the range, massive just with say airfix, and the price v.cheap. We've looked at 1/48th but it's short on choice and expensive.

Thanks for the replies, though quite why German planes fighting for BUF forces seems out of place, I don't know.  Hitler sent aircraft to Spain which flew in Condor Legion colours, so why not to Britain?

@6milphil:  The Gladiator looks stunning, any chance of a close-up?

Usually yes, but it's all packed up in a unclimbed mountain of boxes which is us moving home and business at the moment.

Hmmmm but I do remember it was one of the first VBCW things the boy slug did, and so I found this old thread ( http://gwargamesp.18.forumer.com/index.php?showtopic=2066&hl= ) featuring a slightly better picture...

Have an Anglican Camel somewhere, just noticed I've not photographed it.  ???
