Ideas and pictures of mechanical horses please
« on: 20 July 2011, 06:11:55 PM »
Gentlemen,
I have been tasked with building a Steam powered horse......
I have some ideas, but I would be interested to see what others have come up with....Apart from....GW......

please does anyone have any links or ideas.

One of my thoughts was for a "boxy",riveted body with lots of surface mounted pipes
Another was a "Warhorse" (as in the play) sort of frame
Then I guess there is the Medieval look, but I dont really fancy that one

I think I will do seperate legs ( with substantial anchor points so that a variation of pose can be achieved)

Anyway, any thoughts are welcome

Barry

Oh and have a look for "steamhorses" as a search word, the subject doses come up.
I always liked that clokwork/steam steed that GW put out a while ago some mounted Empire Engineer (but not at £12.50)

Okay, a few pics. Have to say I'm not convinced this is a viable comercial model but it'd be nice to see one available :)
Purely a personal thing but while I do use boxy shapes for mechanical things in my VSF designs, for a mechanical horse I'd go for a more sculpted finish. The Victorians created some beautifully sculptured and shaped machinery and an inventor making horses would put effort into that I think. Unless it's American of course, then function over form probably wins outright ;)

Given that it's artificial, does it need a head? (I say yes, but it's a fair question)

Or legs?

Nice piston lines.

Here is my Union Cavalry mounted on the Mage Knight Galeshi Cavalryman horses:

Thanks for the help.......how do you bring up the blank pics marked X......?
I agree that even a mechanical horse has to have a head
I like the "Elven?" pic at the bottom.....but I am going to go with something a little more "Industrial"
I am not crazy about the coach horses in Papamidnights thread........but again, usefull to see other interpretations
Actually I have been working on it a little today, and as I go along fresh ideas do creep into the design......
I hope to add some pics of wip, if I can get someone to post them, but I am feeling very enthusiastic so it may get finished before that happens.

Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Oh ave always fancied a unit of lancers riding mechanical horses. :)

I beg to differ sir  ;)  These designs defy your hypothesis

Not sure why that first pic isn't showing so I've made it a link instead. Still needed to refresh once I'd followed the link though, must be an issue with the server.
