Question regarding casting of FOW Infantry and basing
« on: August 01, 2011, 04:56:35 PM »
I just started FoW so please forgive my questions if they are a naive.

I have a platoon of Pzr Grenadiers and noticed that the bases of the individual figures are very thick, roughly 20+ cm in scale.  I am referring to the metallic base that is cast along with each soldier, not the plastic base upon which one mounts several soldiers.

Do people tend to sand/file these down?  Is there an efficient way to do this for 30+ figures?

Thanks.

I used a Dremel grinder bit to cut the bases down.

I don't bother. Use a bit of pollyfilla, or even just static grass, and you can cover it easily.
I told you so. You damned fools.

Saugeil, Agis.  Unglaubliche Arbeit.  I don't know how you do that.  I've been practicing for decades and simply cannot approach what you do.  Erwannsinn....

I've flattened them out a bit with a dremmel.  Also almost ground off my thumb when it slipped.  Talk about "die Daumen fest halten"!

I'm presently looking for the California-version of that kind of putty/paste so I can start the basing.  Anyone know what this modelling paste is called out here?  Like we call "PVA" glue "Elmer's"?

In 15mm! No way could I be bothered thinning down the bases - flattening them yes but I only get rid of bases if I'm using resin replacements......and this is from someone whose son wants to collect FOW  :'(
