LotoW Weekend Pictures
« on: November 10, 2007, 12:09:55 PM »
I finally got around to sorting out the pics I took at the recent LotoW weekend at GWHQ.

Apologies for the quality of some, they were taken with a phone camera.

They concentrate on the great buildings, partly because most of the action shots came out blurry (My fault, unfamiliar with the phone cam  :? )

The final shootout, Law vs Outlaw.

(Includes the Ponderosa http://forum.backofbeyond.de/viewtopic.php?t=2930 )

A VERY big shootout, if you ask me. Nice boards  8)  8)  8)
And nicely painted posse and gang, too, although those huge figures in the background seem a bit out of scale and do not have hats.
Oh, and those poor cows.

Edit: Sorry, when I first laid eyes on these pcs, I thought a couple of the cows were unpainted, thus my remark

Like everyone else I find the town splendid, of course!

A few of the buildings are mine, but most were made by Colin (Rushcal?) of CR Models.  They were beautifully done with interiors for most (See the Sherrif Office above).

Each player provided his own posse of figures, with a range of manufacturers; Foundry (new and old ranges), Artizan, Black Scorpion etc.

The big shootout involved all 10 players, but using only their Hero characters.

In the first 2 shootout pics you can see Ray "Cowman" Earle (Organiser of the weekend and member of this forum) hiding behind a steer that he shot dead after the Lawmen stampeded it towards him.
The carcass took so many hits for Ray that we (The Lawmen) began to suspect it was made of Kevlar!

The tables are GW's. It looked like sand scattered over glue on the board surface, then painted. Very simple and hardwearing, but effective.

The buildings look fantastic and the game must have been a hoot, I hope backstabbing and devious alliances were the order of the day :D

Wonderful town!  I love the fences and the hanging laundry.

Looks like it was a fun time.

Just embarking on my own Old West project and there's some ideas I'll be stealing using, especially the back yards.

Great Stuff!

"Good to see this again ten years down the line, Paul!  Still a great looking cow-town"  Well, almost.  By todays standards it is very bland.  The ground cover is too monotone and there isn't a single item of scatter terrain that I saw unless you count a seriously misplaced outhouse!  But, for 2007, I suppose pretty good. Certainly the buildings were stand outs for that time.  Does remind me that I need to get to work on my own Old West project - trains to be worked on this weekend hopefully.  So, thanks for the inspiration.

Really? Gosh, you are a hard man to please. Compared to some of the abysmal terrain I see shown on this forum from time to time these days, this 10 year old tabletop with its lovely buildings looks like a piece of prize-winning art to me. The surface is plain sand, true enough, but then the buildings are parked on GW’s tabletops as the OP reports. As for scatter terrain - well personally I don’t like to see loads of bits plonked down all over the place, so this is much to my taste. But it’s personal preference, I appreciate  :)
