Terrain Commission
« on: August 23, 2011, 12:56:08 AM »
Matt was so impressed with the terrain I had made for Dave he asked if I could make some for him, I have been working on this for the last few weeks together with my normal figure commissions.

Here is an overview of the river/stream sections

Very nice.  I love the deep cut of the river.  Gives you the feel of the real thing.  One suggestion I might make is to texture the water.  http://www.hirstarts.com/tips17/tips17.html#water  Steps 17 and 18.  It would give it that extra umph.  Again very nice combinations of techniques.

I like it  8)

One question though, I'm not too sure about the dark line between the grass and the river bank. Is this from the painting process or for some other reason.

(The hills work a treat  :) )

From the painting process I'm afraid, the towel seemed to suck up the paint as it was drying. May have to leave the towelling un-glued at the edge next time so that I can roll it back out of the way. It does not stand out so much in real life as I drybrushed it to tone it down, the photo does not show this up to well though.

Snitchy, Matt wanted it to look like a stream not a fast flowing river, not really sure how to get a slow flowing effect with the Realistic Water, the painting goes some way to simulating this but again because of the photo process it does not show up that well, and at the end of the day it is practical terrain for wargaming on not a diorama. Thanks for the link.

Could you get some towel scraps (literally, strands of towelling) and break the edge up a bit. It would probably mean dying them but it might work  :)

cheers
