West Wind witches?
« on: September 14, 2011, 04:43:38 AM »
Hi.

I'm a big fan of the West Wind "Vampire Wars" and related gothic horror line of miniatures.

IMHO they have LOTS of character, and are a pleasure to paint, as they have the right amout of detail to have a strong "tabletop presence", but aren't overly detailed as some other companies minis *coughGWcough* that has detail over detail, over detail, over... in a way that never seems to be completly painted, because there is ALWAYS another detail, chain or skull to paint.

Anyhow, the point is: I want to make a new order of WW minis, to complete some CiCarpathia warbands, but I want some witches too.

Now, the Witch Hunter section of WW store has the following blister:

GHW0001 - The Sisters of The Coven (Witches)

http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=2_33

But there are no pic.

Does anyone have them that can share a picture with us, so I can decide if I want them or not?

There are pictures for

GHW0002 - The Cousins of The Coven

But I don't really like them, as I think they have lots of better sculpts in their range of gothic horror miniatures, and if the previous blister has similar minis, I may better look elsewhere (Reaper maybe?).

Thank you very much.
I know you're too old to play with toy soldiers. So give them to me... NOW!

For classic witches (brooms, pointy hats,...), that aren't burdened with loads of unpainterfriendly detail and still paint up nicely, I would recommend the RAFM ones and the Rapier Miniature ones.

Repainted Horrorclix Witches Coven. You get 3 different witches, they are posable, and they can be bought for $1.  :)

I've got Westwind ones and I like them, I will make a shot as soon as I will be back at home tonight. They're just Westwind, action poses, lots of folds and quite big.

Look here and thank the kind Swedes who do WW's work.  :)

I have the storybook witches and they're great. Heresy and RAFM are also good picks for that classic broom-wielding (or riding) style. Others may prefer different styles such as "just another villager" or "Hollywood seductress", but I'm keeping it simple.

I believe that there was an LPL entry featuring the West Wind Witches either last season or the season before if anyone can recall the entry...

Thanks Dolmot, I think that answers my question:

LeadAsbestos, I already have those clix witches, a great value undoubtedly.

I also recommend this one from IMPACT! miniatures:

http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=beauties_profile&id=EO_PQST

or you can buy her without the pumpkin:

http://www.impactminiatures.com/index.php?option=beauties_profile&id=EO_PMPQ

I bought her WITH the pumpkin, but in the end I sculpted a flying broom and posed her "bewitched" style.

And it's already in my painting table.

I'll post some pics for you asap.

To the rest of you, thanks for you suggestions, I'll check them, but the point was to make a single order to WW, and see if I included the blister or not (and I think not, the storybook witches seems like a better option).

Thanks again and "best witches".
