Mister Bugsda, I just started out a Old West project and I am interested in the way you have painted/modelled your bases, especially the paint/colours are of great interest. I am capable of doing beach style bases I would dare to claim, however, the desert is new ground (no pun intended, especially since I have been to Arizona 10+ times :-P).

I am going to try to paint some dusty style desert/trampled earth style, and was hoping for some tips. I really like the way your bases look. The tufts / sand / pebbles I get, hehe, its rather the colour ranges I am after, if you please.

I use Inscribe Caramel with a bit of white added, then a very thin wash of 50/50 mixed Burnt Umber and Burnt Sienna oil paint.

I Then dry brush with a couple of layers of the Caramel with even more white added.

Malamute uses Humbrol 63 for a very effective Old West desert base. 

Give it a go  :)
