Does anyone recognise this Steam Tank
« on: September 27, 2011, 02:25:30 AM »
Hi All

I came across this beautiful steam tank, at a german website. Does anyone recognise it?

Don't try to follow the image link back to its origin, as I have made a copy of the image and re-hosted it (in case the oriinal disappears).

Any info will be greatly appriciated, especially any additional photos and information about the owner/builder.

Looks like another idea worth stealing :)

The shape is pretty interesting, and I like the brown scheme.

I was thinking it looked familiar, but I've never seen the top photo before.

In case you didn't find it yet, it's here (about 6 posts down):

It looks like the added the round main structure to the body of a cannon/artillery piece. If you notice there are two big wheels and then it looks like they attached a smaller wheel to the lower part of the cannon. Thoughts?

Yes, you find out correctly, George, it's one of my earliest steamtank concepts; I still like it! And I'm very happy that you all like it, too. I made some quick photos all around:

It started as a 54 mm Historex napoleonic cannon when I had the idea to transfer that into a steamtank. Now you will probably recognise the carriage parts leading to the front wheel, and the large side wheels. The body was made from two plastic half-domes from a SF3D-kit, everything else is from the parts-box. Engine pipes from thick tin solder, and the gun is a brass one from an old ship model my grandfather built decades ago. The rivets on the metal bands around the body are punched out with my punch-and-die-set and are appr. 1 mm wide. The prussian officer looking through the glasses is from Foundry. Now on to more pics and thanks for your interest:

I do believe I'm in love with that steamtank! That is very impressive.

All told, how much time do you think you spent on making it?
