Impressive painting - the Crusader miniatures look quite horrible on their site.  Your paintwork has made me reconsider them as an option.

Great work, Doc!
That is another lovely example of 'game in a tin'.

Thanks for the great response! Hopefully it inspires a few more lanistae out there to invest in a tin like fellow LAFers did it for me.

Is that true? It sounds plausible although I alway thought the Romans were a rather blood thirsty lot and would appreciate the sight of the blood on the walls.

To be honest, I have no idea if and how actual arena walls were painted. Like Furt said, Romans preferred to paint the bottom of outer walls in red or brown which absorbs splashes of mud quite nicely, so you don't have to repaint it all the time. Obviously, my ragtag arena is owned by a tightwad who's avoiding additional cost for paint as hell.
Okay, honest, I was just too lazy to copy the extensive murals as, for example, seen in Connolly's account on Pompeii. Would be great, but maybe next time – if we get closer to the capitol. ;)

Just a teaser (hopefully of no offense ;)): with construction work finished, training has finally started. As I'm trying to get used to the rules (by fellow LAFer Furt), I scribbled down a few notes during one of the test matches. That's now up on the blog.

As you can see, that particular training saw my latest acquisitions locking horns. In case you've missed them on the APC, here's a wrap-up.
First addition to the team was a Thraex named Satornilos, he's said to be from Hispania (but who's to believe slave traders?).

Regularly Satornilos is facing Lascivus, a Murmillo from Egypt.

Thanks for watching everyone!

Sweet! I've been keeping an eye on your thread for painting inspiration (hopefully starting my arena during the summer holidays). Out of interest, how did you make your Arena dice? I just used stickers on blank insert dice, but yours look like 'proper' dice - see through transfers? Or did you paint the symbols on?

Agreed - how did you pimp your dice?

Cheers, guys. :)
Regarding the dice: just label paper with symbols (colours reversed & resized) printed on, cut out and stuck on blank black dice.
