Sci-fi Noir Civilians
« on: 24 October 2011, 01:28:47 AM »
Hello all, I'm looking for some help on finding unarmed civilian models in 25-28mm for my upcoming adventure games of The Department.  This world is going to be very 'bladerunner', with various cliques expressing their fashions on the street so I will be looking for anything from Victorian through to post-apocolyptic; I would like the majority to be reminiscent of 1920's to 1950's America fashions.  Any help on finding miniatures would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

I don't know about any 1920-1950 era civilians, but Mega Miniatures has a big, cheap pack of very nice modern, generic civilians, including a woman with a baby stroller, a wheelchair-bound teenager and some random dude eating a hotdog ;) I guess those wouldn't look out of place in 2019's Los Angeles.

That being said, I love the theme you envision and I'm loking forward to hearing your progress report. In case you didn't know, there is some sort of new rulebook in development that tries to create a future-noir crime story with miniatures, basically a direct copy (homage?) to Blade Runner. I can't remember it's name, there was a successful kickstarter project for it a few weeks back on tabletopgamingnews.com. Maybe this can serve as inspiration when it's available.

Copplestone has some, also Pulp figures :

I'm pretty sure some could be found within the multitudes supplied by Brigade Games :

The Department? ;)

There's some nice near-future/cyberpunk civilians at Antenociti's Workshop that could work:

Some very nice scenery items too. And this vehicle from Antenociti is essential:

heresyminiatures.com do some useful miniatures in their SF range - epecially the not-Who stuff.

Reaper's Chronoscope line has a few useful figures too - agents and civilians. Well worth a look.

Heh, that game I (and the OP, actually) was talking about is indeed The Department, I just didn't recognize it's name, it's so generic-sounding ;)

World Works Games also has a couple of spinner-type aerodyne vehicles as well as futuristic street tiles.

If you're looking for 1950s cliques you'll find few better than these blokes from Brigade Games.
http://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=2807
There were no pictures of them on the Brigade site, but if you order direct from them you can just get 10 greasers instead of nine and a mutant.

Musketeer Miniatures do two packs of interwar civies that might fit your bill.

If you can aford the postage, Wargames Foundry do a few as well in their WW2 range, and in thier victorian and old west ranges.

West Wind do some civies in their Berlin or Bust range, but they can be a bit tricky to find- Heres a link.... http://www.westwindproductions.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=130_136&products_id=1101
West winds Victorian range is found in their Gothic war range- very useful form your needs.

Brigade Games do some nice cowboy civies, and some victorian gangsters inspires by Gangs of New York that would be good for you, and they have some 1930's civies in thier gangster range too.

Also check out Ironclad, who have a victroian SciFi range... I am sure it might suit you needs. here's a  link...
http://www.ironcladminiatures.co.uk/shop/category_40/Victorian-Sci-Fi.html?shop_param=cid%3D%26

Another must look at is Reapers Chronoscope range, which is a bit eclectic but has tons of stuff that will fit what you are looking for.

Ohh! I just thought of this one by Black Scorpion too
http://www.blackscorpionminiatures.com/product_info.php?cPath=23&products_id=56

Eureka have some odd victoian scifi civies in their PAx limpoko range.. you cvan get them in the UK from fighting 15s. They also have some nice victorian and elegent 1920's folks too.

Dixon do 1920's, cowboys, triad gangsters and modenish chinese civies that might fit you requirments too

Phew... that's just off the top of my head.

Theres more 28mm Superhero Madness at my blog, http://fourcoloursupers.blogspot.com/
And for Ultra-modern Wargaming check out Hotel Zugando at http://ultramoderngaming.blogspot.co.uk/

May I humbly suggest a few of my own figures? They were created with just such a retro sci-fi atmosphere in mind. :)

They all have small pistols, but that shouldn't be too hard to rectify.

Chic girl in a nice coat and beret, with a small robodog as a bonus:
http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/online-store/havana-gray

Classic Femme Fatale with looong legs:
http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/online-store/kitzie-rama

Arrogant bruiser complete with knuckle dusters:
http://www.statuesqueminiatures.co.uk/online-store/inigo-wilde

Don't be too put off by the sizes; as you can see HERE they match some popular ranges quite nicely.

Hope that blatant bit of self promotion helps!  ;)

I had the same idea, and was looking into the Rezolution line for my minis,  esp. the great Rachael and Deckard set.

Some cool minis, with just the right feel. Dying to try The Department, but sworn off new projects for a while...

Thanks very much for the awesome feedback folks.  I'm really lovin' the Blue Moon, Pulp Figures and Copplestone especially.  I will likely also add in some of Andrew's Statuesqueminiatures stuff too.

I'm going to build the terrain entirely from card using World Works games products since they have exactly what I'm looking for.  I've already built 3 test buildings and I think they will make a splendid table.  I'm going to blend their Mayhem downtown, with the Propsmaster line of future vehicles and the Podtel.

Wish me luck!

And keep up the awesome suggestions.

WWG's "Streets of Titan" set is the one I would use myself, it's really Blade Runneresque, with parking (landing) spots for VTOL's and stuff ;)

Too bad they don't have any near-future TLX building sets yet... Although you could always just kitbash some yourself.
About the Rezolution "CSO Rangers" aka Rachael and Deckard, I think the Rachael miniature has strange anatomical issues. Her left arm seems to be too long, and  the left seem like they are too far apart.

East Riding Miniatures' "Corporate Wars" range might be of use, especially the Enforcers and Slicks:

Back from the dead, almost.
