Night Urban Bases? - tutorial released!
« on: 25 October 2011, 07:11:17 PM »
EDIT: i released the tutorial on the site! =)

read it here!

(there's nothing too special, just a report of an experiment :) )

Hi everyone!

i wanted to paint some kolony militia from Pig Iron, and i was wandering about the colour scheme.

I was thinking about a really DARK colour scheme, like the jin roh battle suits.

Then i was thinking about the bases: i wanted something in contrast with the darker lights. i thought about 2 options:

- a really light and colourful base: like a postapoc borderland like terrain
- a night ground, with some glow torches on it.

i also did some experiments about this last option, and that's what came out. it is a 4x4 cm eulithe piece.

Please, tell me your thinkings about it. i'm really interested in your suggestions.

thanks,

Jack

I'd say that works really well! You might want to vary your light sources on the bases though, or it'll look like they're raiding a rave party ;)

that's what they're doing! a very, very violent rave party! =)

Ok, now i've to make the bases! :) and maybe add some more white on the concrete: it is really really dark, quite good for a diorama, not for a playing set! :)

anyway, i've uploaded a better picture:

Wicked !  :-*
Ofcourse, if you're going down that path, there's gonna have to be OSL on the minis too.
Can't wait to see the end result.

Very Brave of you
Next to NMM, OSL is something I won't do.
I'm glad if I can get a decent PJ on a mini. Don't feel like wasting one with aforementioned techniques  ::)

Inkwell's recipe  ?

Start with a good solid dark black for the first coat. Then I use p3 coal black but any charcoal black would do for the big highlights then wet blend increasing amounts of a sky blue with the charcoal building up your highlights to as far as you want.Pretty fast and it comes out good.Cant beat that lol Dont be afraid to be bold, contrast is what makes it work.
