Looking for good horses

I have considered using toy horses, but all the ones I've seen don't have nearly the same quality detail that you can get in a miniature. Being a perfectionist I know it would bother me to no end and I would regret that : )

My main reason for being in the hobby is painting, and I can't deny that the better quality the more fun the painting is ; )

I agree with you Wathi, I seldom look for the "cheap" alternative, I rather pay a little more and get something that is more pleasing to the eye. I also think it is very clear from your various posts in this thread that you are looking for good looking horses, preferably without sadles etc.

The toy company ERTL had small sets of horses (without saddles), in a wide variety of poses and colors for Christmas last year.  They are perfect scale for 28mm.  They are already painted in a toy kind of way, but that is easily corrected.  After the Christmas season last year I purchased a box full of th efigures and now use them for Plains Indian pony herds.  They might be just what you are looking for.  I picked up mine from Tractor Supply Company (TSC).

A lot of historical figure manufacturers make horses without saddles moulded. Most will have bridles and bits though.  Failing that - check out S-Gauage railway stuff like this:

I really like the saddles ones they had, might be a nice addition as well.
