Warlord Zulus
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:39:38 AM »
Posted some sprue shots of the new Married and Unmarried Zulu warriors from Warlord games/Empress Miniatures on my blog:

I hope you find this informative, useful and entertaining!

Very useful thanks,  I am about to order some, and the sprus shots have helped me to plan my spray-paint-dip strategy!

Only '6' unique bodies....come on...that's a joke, right.  :'(

Thanks anyways for the pics, they are helpful. And the actual figs don't look too bad...much better than I was expecting given the 3-ups. I am however a bit disappointed that given the chance to create some variety (which is easy with multipose plastics) that Warlord/Empress have cut corners a bit...as the variety on the sprues just doesn't seem to be there. Sure there are an adequate number of arms but only five shields, two of which are large and three small...not good. Warlord has taken the same type of cheap shortcuts with their plastic WWII range as well as other plastics (heck, the Prussian Landwehr had only a couple of unique figs!!!!!!).

In any event, given they are plastic and you need loads of Zulus to fight the evil British with, I am sure these will sell well.

I wouldn't discount them just yet  ;)

I was pretty disappointed with Wargames Factory Zulus when I first assembled them, however once they were painted up and en masse they looked good. I will probably just mix in the Warlord Zulus with the Wargames Factory  and they will look great!

I do agree not having enough large shields is a problem though.

Cheers

Crikey, sir. I'm looking forward to today. Up diddly up, down diddly
down, whoops, poop, twiddly dee - decent scrap with the fiendish Red
Baron - bit of a jolly old crash landing behind enemy lines - capture,
torture, escape, and then back home in time for tea and medals.

Empress sell large shields BTW, and very good value they are too (ahem)  ;)

Look impressive and will be my choice but I hear the shields are a bit few in number?

Only got the married zulus so far ,but the shields are dissapointing 4 with arms attached and the 5th has no way of attaching it to a figure as there are no left arms without a shielld attached so not much variation allowed plus the firing musket from the unmarried set with both arms attached is not included. Also the same metal figure in every box is a bit annoying afteer all the idea with plastic is variation .

Any idea how these mix with WF zulus? What about swapping heads, arms etc between the sets?

Size wise very good heads should be ok swapping them, but no chance with the arms .

from memory ,I am at work at the moment so cant check  but have it in my head that the WGF ones are joined at the shoulder and the Warlord ones join at the elbow so if I am right they could be used with a bit of cutting but not just swapping about but I stand to be corrected

Of course, the most important questions are is how well do they go together and are they easy to assemble?

I gave up on the WGF British - and they have put me off multi-part plastics (as opposed to, say, Perry's French line or ACW) ever since!

That's good to know - as I sit here with Zulu playing on the TV giving me inspiration I may just pick up a box or two on payday!
