Trouble Coming up With Allied Weird War?

When I was writing rules for our zombies I thought about would it be possible or even likely if possible that the troops as well as the country's citizens would accept any kind of evil as bad as reanimating their loved ones.  Can you imagine getting a letter saying your son died and then told that he has been reenlisted as a undead trooper.  HELL NO!  This is just one reason I couldn't justify controllable zombies so I made any and all dead will return as the undead and have only one motivation, feast off the living.  Kinda makes you think twice about engaging with the enemy when you know that any casualties you take or inflict will be coming back to eat everyone.

Are games get very interesting to say the least especially when Captain America, Superman or Namor dies.  Super-zombie!

Now with vampires, incubi and succubi we decided the only reason they would ever side with a military would to be for benefiting themselves.  These creatures live off the blood, life force of humanity and hold humans with such contempt that they see them as cattle but when they are in small numbers and their are hundreds of thousands of cows with weapons that can blow them or their protection away they see things differently.  I say these creatures are more then likely to side with the Germans and Russians because of the large populations of POWs, political prisoners and undesirable peoples that would be expendable to feed these creatures appetites without losing military personnel to satisfy their appetite.  The governments would provide food and protection where the creature would provide their unique capabilities to the war effort.

When it comes to demons it depends on what type you are dealing with.  Cthullu ones would make deals for their worship but religious ones would never be controllable and would beguile and manipulate those who attempted it to their own agendas.  In our games we have decided that demons can be on the battlefield but unless within some sort of storyline they will do as they please but can be killed.  Now when you talk about the Fallen and Righteous Angels then man has no means of killing these entities as they are of such power that only one of their own can, so our angels tend to infuse humans with either powers or knowledge then an actual hand in the fighting.

We actual played a game where one of the Righteous and Fallen engaged in combat on the field in front of a Panther platoon and a US airborne platoon and when the Angels where finish most of the humans within site were nothing but smoldering husks from seeing such evil and good in combat was to much.

I see Britain's defenses being more mystical than mechanical. What about having Baden-Powell, his life extended by magic, leading the British Paranormal service.

The Scouting service was simply a facade used to recruit young men and boys with the proper paranormal potential.

Maybe Baden Powell is actually Merlin, waiting for the right time to bring Arthur back from the dead to defend the realm.

I love this idea. Elementals with tank elements, fairie grenadiers.....  Gandalf in olive drab...... Plus I could use my UNIT  troops from Doctor Who :)

There's a nice series of books the first of which is called "Sabriel" Hadrian's wall represents the division between a Mundane world and a magic one. The closer you get to the wall the the less technology functions. At the rear ranks of defenses on the mundane side there were machine guns and artillery. The closer you got to the wall the less your tech work. Frontline troops wore mail and carried swords and bows.

Maybe your British paranormals would function in the same way. Their presence canceling out technology while it was in their sphere of influence. Leading a section of specially equipped and trained melee troops they could wreak havoc on an enemy that found itself suddenly relying on its most basic defenses.

Heres the breakdown for my weird allies. (proposed)

Armoured infantry
Powered Armour
Commandoes(some with weird high tech guns)
Walkers
Tanks
Partisans

The truly weird i reserve for the FIST, or Field Intelligence Strike Team
The FIST will be comprised of a variety of individuals who can work together in teams, operate on their own, or join a squad. There are occultists, monster slayers, and high-tech commandoes and OSS/SOE field agents.

Also, i want to do Sgt Fury as a werewolf. His Howling Commandoes were ambushed by a large pack of german werewolves and killed. He only survived after being savaged by dropping a grenade at his own feet which blew him off a cliff into a river, where he was eventually rescued by partisans and returned to the Allies. His miraculous recovery was due to his becoming a werewolf. Eventually i want to modify a werewolf model to have an eye-patch and cigar to reflect his wolf form.
And in the fury of this darkest hour
We will be the light
You've asked me for my sacrifice
And I am Winter born

Don't forget, here in Britain we had Arthur C.Clarke and the British Interplanetary Society! Called in to counter Wernher Von Braun's V2s - and the longer range, winged V2, the A4b and its advanced version, the A9, and the two-stage A9/A10 that could have hit New York - what would they have come up with? Rocket Troops, yes, in a pulp setting, and I'd love to see a WWII space war game based on real tech of the time, a more realistic view than the old "Hard Vacuum" game, fun though that was, but as for a 25mm figure game - transformable rocket fighters, to counter German jet mecha?

For a right laugh it could be Dick van Dyke playing an Englishman.

The Royal Mary Poppinses (Red Berets who parachute into combat holding parrot-handled umbrellas and carpetbags)

And don´t forget Angela Lansbury´s Armour Brigade.

Vorläufigekampfgruppe Lansbury. I'm seriously considering buying this horrible movie. For the kids, of course.

I'm writing up notes on making Everyman squads for the major players of WW2. I'll post that on a separate thread later.

Unfortunately Arthur C. CLarke is now better known for his preoccupation with young boys, (and not in a good way) hes out of the running for inclusion I'm afraid in my books.

I've been vaguely tempted towards WWWII, but hadn't thought about force compositions much until this thread started.

I tend to favour British & Commonwealth troops and have to agree that British Mecha troops just doesnt seem right.  I'm more inclined to the paranormal/Dracula/Werewolf/Evil type of setting.
I'd look at using a Commando-type force, assisted by specialists in the paranormal and assisted by high tech gadgetry etc. More akin to Buffy goes to war!

In this respect the Artisan range (yet again!) tempts me. Using the NW Europe SAS/Para's and maybe Commando's coupled with various single Thrilling Tales figures for the boffins etc.
A kind of Para (normal) Regiment working secretly behind enemy lines fighting the forces of evil.

Another thought that leapt into my head was Captain Scarlet, brought forward to WWII (and easily combined with the above):
Colonel White, Captains Scarlet & Blue, Lieutenant Green (Comms Specialist) and the Angels    (Possibly 'real' angels in this case) etc.
Captain Black would either be a traitor or bitten by a Vampire/Werewolf etc who has turned to the dark side.
The Mysterons are simply replaced by the Germans, but with a paranormal/occult feel rather than Martian.
It even has the potential for secret vehicles and weapons, hidden around occupied Europe, unavailable to conventional forces.

They crash him, and his body may burn,
They smash him. But they know he'll return,
To live again.

A Weird War II Dorian Gray?  (How's that for cross-genre; World War II/Gothic horror/Pulp/Sci-Fi   :o )

I agree. I also draw the line at where revivied soldiers eating brains, indiscriminately, for sustenance.
