Our first Red vs White using Mud and Blood rules
« on: 08 December 2011, 05:10:50 AM »
Last weekend my brother (Wirelizard) and I played our first major game of Mud and Blood. We actually played two games, but the result was the same: a one-sided massacre of the Reds. We ended up playing with the Scenario One, “The Platoon Attacking a Strongpoint”.

What ended up happening was the Reds charged the Whites, who were dug-in behind a wall and had a Maxim. Then the Whites opened up. Given the Reds attacked quickly, without coordination, the expected happened. This Whites usually one had one target to shoot at, after all.

There were a few lucky shots (I ended up popping Wirelizard's corporal twice) and the Maxim jammed a lot. Turns out it didn't matter.

You can read more on at http://www.warbard.ca/2011/12/04/reds-whites-in-the-mud-the-blood/

Anyway, a few shots:

Am looking forward to how you progress with the rules.
Hopefully after a few more games you can give us some ideas of
what you like and don't like about the rules.
Also like the look of your figures, hope to see more of them.

The figures and most of the scenery is all Wirelizard's. I have some nice gaming mats, but they were at another house the night we played this.

I do like the rules, once we got the second turn ending card. The problem is that the snifter card penalizes the moving player and rewards the static player, as everybody can fire, but they cannot move. Given the static player already had more Big Men points to spend on clearing shock, this double hit makes it very hard for the moving player, who must spend points on both clearing shock and moving people, to get anywhere.

As for the pictures, they are terribly grainy. I had to shoot at 1600 ISO because the lighting in my dining room is crap, which meant I got a lot of noise. I am going to rig some better lights for this Saturday's game, so I can shoot at a lower ISO. All that being said, having a DSLR does make taking pictures a bit easier, but I can do a fair amount of post-processing. I am currently saving up for a Canon 100mm macro lens, but that will be a while yet.
