Speaking of which, not entirely off topic, I was on my old street in Stockholm a couple of days ago and, lo and behold, a new store had opened called 'Material' (yes, that is 'Materials', in English). It carries all the stuff you need cut and packed in smaller and less costly portions. MDI, pink foam in 2x2 sheets, brass rod, dental plaster; you name it they had it. I tell you, I gaped. How many times have I not grumbled that I always had to drive to the suburbs with a car I didn't have and by quantities of which I needed maybe a quarter of.

While on holiday in Thailand I bought a nice Buddah statue which has a base of water lilies (I think) . It s made of resin and should look great repainted for my Vietnam project that I'm currently collecting .
I also found some of those aquarium mats but was with my mate and his lady so did'nt buy them at the time . Would you believe it I could'nt find them the next day when I went back to the store. >:(

Hammers, you lucky boy! You have stumbled on Aladdin's cave.

I've just made a similar discovery here in Blighty, in the shape of Hobbycraft Superstores, which up to now I had assumed were for pansies making DIY Christmas cards, quilting, ornamental knotwork, plastic flower arranging and other such sissy activities.

Having actually ventured into the huge branch in creepy Crawley this morning, I find the top floor almost entirely given over to modelling and art materials - and how! Balsa wood in every shape and size, full ranges of Flames of War (not that I do), GF9, Airfix, Tamiya, Woodland Senics, Hornby Scenics, GW, paints and brushes and materials of every brand and description... Glues, tools, modelling books - again, a veritable Aladdin's cave.
All they needed was a bar and I'd be in seventh heaven...
Worth a look if you're in the UK, although I don't know how well spread about their stores are...

I hate you all.  :(

I have to mail order everything. Obviously there are no creative types anywhere north and west of Preston.

On that recommendation I have looked at their storefinder and found they have a branch in Woking, a fifteen minute drive from me. Thanks Captain :)

Well I hope I haven't sent you on a wild goose chase, Nick. The Crawley one is huge - like a B&Q for anoraks  ;)

The Woking one might be a mere booth with none of the aforementioned goodies... Will be interested to hear how you get on!

Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

4 x JTT Acacia trees = 1 x 6", 1 x 4" & 2 x 3". For the price they are OK but not startling material. One of our club lads is a whiz with scenery and I reckon he could make some money on the side if we could convince him to produce similar stuff.
Cheers,
