WIP 28mm Vehicle Scratchbuilds
« on: December 16, 2011, 12:08:13 AM »
I thought I would post pics of some recent 28mm sci fi scratchbuilt fighting vehicles. All have been made from nothing more than cheap toys and discarded household items. I dint think any of them has cost me more than $4 each. All have much work to go yet.

Thanks for looking!

Awesome builds! The camo patters really make them pop (even though they're probably be meant to do exactly the opposite ;) )

Am I right in thinking those are old computer mouses? And some tube caps cut in half for the intakes? I just love this guessing game :D

Way to go; these vehicles have just raised the cool-bar for all hover-tanks...
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Hi,
Great looking grav APCs, And as already said, wonderful camo.
Could you tell me where I can get hold of these wonderful zombie troopers and the Bald woman with the funny green thing as seen in these pics?

The Zombie Troopers are old Warzone Dark Legion figs. "Blessed Legionaries" IIRC. I just picked up a pack on eBay. The bald female is from Trinity Battleground. Which also pops up on eBay every now and again.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone! The figure IDs are just as Dentatus says, Warzone and Trinity Battleground. Dentatus should know: he painted the bald woman!  lol

The camo pattern grav AFVs are indeed old computer mice, with 20mm square figure bases, dollar tree kids puzzle pieces, and caps from our diabetic cat's insulin syringes all added. The camp itself is about the only type of vehicle camp I can paint that doesn't look awful. It's easy to do, but time consuming.

The big unpainted hover tank is actually a kids toy jet ski hull, flipped over and with a dollar store tank turret added.

Very well executed, and I love the style and coherency that you have with the entire line you've painted.

The models you've chosen fit together very well through your use of the color schemes and it truly looks like a line that was meant to fit together, rather than something cobbled together from various lines.

Excellent work!

My only criticism is that the camo pattern seems much too "large" and I'd personally like to see it broken up with some smaller bits and pieces.

@ predatortpt: the rotars are made from GW 40mm round bases, back to back. A thick 40mm poker chip is sandwiched between them, and a clothing button has been glued to the center of each side.

Very well done. You'll need to participate in Trash Bash 2012, it's right up your alley.

I don't know if you all have seen this. Pre-cut masking tape for digital camo patterns:
