Which Sikh models will you be using?

A mixture of Foundry's Darkest Africa and NW Frontier Sikh models. Again, not quite 'right', as they are armed with Martini Henry rifles, which should of course belong to the later NW Frontier (1890s) era, but they are just too good not to use. I've had the models for years and never got round to painting them til now.

After that it's British artillery (more Foundry) and Bengal Lancers (Perry) plus Ghurkas (Foundry) and then I need to paint a baggage train...I have some pack donkeys and pack camels somewhere. I also need some baggae train guards...I have a single pack of Foundry Guides, so they may do for that, although somewhere I have some other native infantry, whose manufacturer escapes me...Australian company...nice models, but a bit more slim than Foundry...

I also have loads of Old Glory Pathans to paint. The first 40 are done alraedy. Plus I have loads of Foundry Afghan regulars (infantry, cavalry and artillery) and Tribal cavalry...They'll all be dipped and highlighted and I may have enough to game with by 2013!!  lol

I also intend to use the variant of GW Legends of the Old West rules that Dan Mersey did an article about in Battlegames magazine ages ago. They are great for solo play or for games where all the players want to be British, as native movement is all chart driven!! He did them for the Sudan campaign, but with a handful of minor tweaks, they'll do for NW Frontier games and are easy to use as pick-up games at the club with me as umpire...

My Colonial games, while being based around the 2nd Afghan war, will include my own fictional regiments, fictional personailities and fictional encounters done for fun at my wargames club. For that, these models will more than do the job.

This, for me too.

Nice job, Andy!

I will be using my redcoated Empress/Zulu Campaign-kitted Brits along side my Perry Sudan Brtis and Pontoonier Brits in my Imaginationary Britannia Colony that borders NWF/Sudan/Zulu-like nations.  I toyed with painting the Empress Brits in khaki, but then thought wth, it's my world, I'll just use them as-is.  However, I really like the effect, so I may change my mind.  Unless I don't get to them before Empress comes out with their own NWF in 2012.  (I hope that is still in the works, btw.)

I agree with you there, you've done a spiffing job on these.  :-*

In response to your plea for info on Afghan (Pathan) banners, they are very similar to Sikh standards, both being triangular in shape. When I was last at the National Army Museum they had a special exhibit on the wars in Afghanistan and did have some prints of captured Afghan standards. I can't locate the pics in my records but I do have a useful site on Sikh standards, that should give you some ideas:

And as for not wanting to spend all that time redoing the water bottles, puttees, etc....like you said, to each his/her own...your figs look great and as long as you are happy with them then that is all that matters! ;)

ARKOUDAKI, please don't get me wrong, the work of those who do convert is simply stunning, maybe I should have said that I'm too lazy and lack the modelling talent to swap bits around  :)

I could've sworn Empress had said they were going to do the 1897 NWF next, was I mistaken?

I believe the plan was a range for Chitral 1895 but that it is delayed until late-ish next year.
