New guy to lead adventure...
« on: January 03, 2012, 08:39:50 PM »
Hello all!!!
As I am a bit new (@ 1 year) to 28mm historical miniatures and 28mm historical wargaming, I would like to say "hello" and ask for a bit of advice. I know that this question has been asked time and time again, so be patient with my level of 'novice-ness' here...
I have an army of 28mm WW2 United States paratroopers done by Steve Dean and am now ready to play a bit. It has been some time collecting the pieces that I want and that fit, now I need some opinions on what gaming system or rules are the best out there for a former Warhammer and 40k guy to adapt to. Thanks much for your input and time... I will be listening...

Hiya,

I use "Kampfgruppe Normandy" from Games Workshop, "I aint been shot mum" from Too Fat Lardies and "Rules of Engagement" by Great Escape Games.

Kampfgruppe is battlion based I use it for 28mm (Yes I have way to many figs and vehicles :) )
Too Fat Lardies is company based for 20mm but can be adepted to 28mm (ranges need be enhanced by 20% or so)
Rules of Engagement is also company based and written for 28mm

Hope this helps!

Welcome  :D

Rate of Fire by Crusader Games is a nice simple set of rules for 28mm.

I hear FUBAR also works well, and you can't beat the price (free) and the length (1pg).

Hello!!
I really appreciate all the info thus far!! I have actually purchased the US forces supplement rulebook from Iron Ivan and I must say that i liked the idea. As i have 26 US paras painted up so far, as well as 3 M3 corgi halftracks, 3 Shermans, and 2 Cromwells a, from Corgi, and it seems as though I could jump right into a skirmish.
I will look into those rules further and if somebody tells me how, post some pics of what I have for an army so far. Thanks for the info and all the help!!!
This is my first ever forum or blog and Lead Adventure seems like the place to be for what I am looking for!

I must that this one of the best fora ever....

I've around quite some time and its refreshing to "see" likeminded people. Not brand/rule specific!
All about the love for the game/figs.

I'm currently playing disposable heroes from Iron Ivan games. It's a nice way of playing in my opinion. Still getting it figured out myself though ;-)

I also play Disposable Heroes (Platoon size games) and love it.
I have just bought Point Blank (squad based Disposable Heroes), but yet to have a game. I am looking forward to playing it soon.

I like Crossfire by Arty Conliffe.

It's a relatively light but tactically rich set of rules that really reinforce the need to employ proper tactics. I also like the fact that, with 1:72 scale plastic figures from Revell and tanks from Italieri, I have a 4' x 8' table with armor and two companies per side and, with rule books and everything, it's about $200 USD all in. It gives the GW and Flames of War players a moment's pause.

from Mr.Vampire: "It's the paintjob that makes the miniature fight harder not the size."

I prefer NUTS! from Two Hour Wargames for WW2 skirmish squad tro platoon level games, and you can get the core of the rules for free:

http://twohourwargames.com/chainreaction3.html

Or if you still like the Warhammer-ish game style, a Warhammer WW2 conversion is available at this Yahoo group:

Play the game, not the players!

Disposable Heroes for platoon actions and Point Blank for squad actions.

Cheers,

Helen
