Last Exile Vanship
« on: 05 January 2012, 03:54:15 AM »

I wasn't quite sure what forum to post this in, but all previous references to Last Exile have been under VSF Adventures, so here it is. The model is on an Anatoray military vanship bearing the markings of the aerial carrier Silvana. I don't have any figures wearing Anatoray military pilot's suits - yet - so I'm having a couple pulp pilot figures stand in as civilian pilots. Or perhaps the crew is just up to something covert....

Modeled in 3D and printed through Shapeways.

Interesting. I like it. Is this from a Manga title?

yea, tough it is a pretty decent one, with the exception of the romance plots.

I like :-*  I do have about six or seven Last Exile DVD's and had only considered the massive battleships and always realised that even if I made one it would be far to big for the tabletop.

What with this and the recent planes posted elsewhere I think I will have to investigate this Shapeways

That's really cool. How much did it cost to print, if I may ask?

Interesting. Is Shapeways 3d CAD design and printing?

The model prints as a single piece, and cost me $23.13 (US) plus shipping. It is hollow to hold down costs (they charge by the amount of material used), and even though you can't see it in the picture, there are rudimentary seats in the cockpits. I was pretty pleased with how it turned out.

Yes, though I have access to a 3D modeling and do the design work myself, then have Shapeways print it for me.

!!!!!

You need to show some closeups, please! What program are you using for modeling? I did some work for an online game using Blender and 3DS but I'd have to relearn it... it's been too long.

Amazing work man!

Thanks!

I'll see what I can do about getting some closeup shots this weekend. I've been using Autodesk Inventor 2009 for the modeling, mostly because thats what's on my machine at work (I do the modeling during my lunch). It works great for mechanical stuff but has problems modeling complex curves, so anything organic is a pain in the posterior.

While I enjoyed the Last Exile anime, and also wanted the big 'nefs, I had reservations about the vanships.

Must say, you've done outstanding work!

Do you have the designs on Shapeways for others to pick up?

Shapeways is definitely making it easier to get exactly the models you want, and at prices comparable to manufacturers.
