New style of painting
« on: January 06, 2012, 10:53:31 PM »
My brother spoke to an artist and he told him to place figure under the light and only highlight the shiny areas for a 3 d effect. He used to only paint the models evenly. Only focus on the areas that catch the viewers eye, so don't waste time on boots or belt but only the face and chest. He is a legend painter :)

Wow, great job!
Huge difference between these and your KKBB figs.
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

Good looking figures.
Will have to try that idea on some figures,
next time I paint, which is tonight.

Use a flourescent light and spend less time highlighting the shadows on the model.

Whatever the technique the finished painting is very nice. Love the green.

Zenithal lighting has been used for some time (bill horan was using it [he called it the stop light system] way back) especialy in historical painting.

You can realy get the most out of it when you start to play with the different paint consistencies as well as techniques such as wetblending, filters and feathering.
Colour theory helps as well.

Top work man :)

Thank you very much for the advice! My brother says the next step is to work out wet blending and use it to on figure light sourcing. Ramos is holding some flamy thing and that is next up.

Instead of jumping into wet blending it would be better getting used to diluting the paints even more and try filters and feathering.

P.m. me your brothers address and I'll post him the miniature mentor dvd (the complete guide) which should help him out with the basics (I bought it ages ago and then found I was doing all of the stuff shown on it already!)
