From Airfix's "New for 2012" page

http://www.airfix.com/2012

Lots more releases in other scales and for the 20th century at that earlier link.

Isn't it nice to see the old dear up and about again?
Back from the dead, almost.

It certainly is good to see them in business. I'm hoping they'll ramp up the re-issues as well as the new stuff, there's one or two models I'd like to get hold of that haven't been available for a while.

That is very exsiting for me! :o :o

I am hoping they will work for 28mm and not be too big.

Thanks for the heads up.

I was watching a financial report the other day and apparently this is part of a long term plan to rejuvenate the Hornby group by producing more 'affordable' products. It follows a slump in sales of model railway products over the year, up to and over Christmas, which tend to be amongst their most expensive lines.

The wargaming market has to be one worth cutting into- its not exactly niche, given world wide sales.  No one else has their expertese to produce this sort of product.

Wargaming has traditionally been a niche area for plastic model companies, but with a decrease in the number of people making model kits, they have to take what business they can... note the recent forays into 1/100 plastic vehicle kits by Zvesda, clearly meant to cut into the 'Flames of War' market. 20mm used to be 'the' scale for wargaming WW2 etc, but the arrival of 15mm some time ago (80s), as model companies seemed to be failing or going to the wall, stole a lot of what business could have been capitalised on. Many wargamers don't have the patience to put together the numbers of kits required for a game and the survivability of a plastic model in the hands of your average ham-fisted gamer is quite low.

I'd like to get into larger games than the platoon sized games I currently buy for in 28mm and I constantly procrastinate between 15mm and 20mm or this. My inner child would love to go back to building 1/72 kits, especially some of the older models Airfix produced and if these appear again, along with a stream of new releases, I'll be sold on it.

Back in 2008, I had replied to Airfix/Hornby's reply to a query of mine about the 1/32 jungle outpost, and suggested that they consider 1/48. I never heard back from them the second time, but it does look as though they might have woken-up to the possibilities...

Unfortuantely though, these are all either mock ups or CGI shots at present, be good to see some plastic floating around soon.
