Russian Village (WIP)

After building my french village, I must confess that my russian village with paper isbas looks a bit bad.

So I first start with some thatched cottages from Bolt Action Miniatures

But a village with 2 buildings...

So I decided to build more in foamcard, 4 isbas, 2 barns and  a windmill (for I have some pictures of windmills during the battle of Kursk.)

Buildings assembled (roofs from Old Crow (former Ainsty Trader range one's - Doors from Pardulon).

Buildings wall textured

Basecoat applied

First painting phase completed

Not that the paper building look bad, but... your new buildings look great.

You make it look so easy. They are well constructed and the paintjob is great.  8)

What material are the fields made of?

On the BAM buildings picture?

They are from Terrain Mat.  It's a large plastic card sheet that I cut in smaller fields.

Thanks!  8)

Next question: Did you scratch build the windmill wings? and How long does it take you to construct a building? and finally how do you texture the foam card?

I have never build anything myself but your projects are inspiring me to try myself.

Cheers

* Windmill wings

Yes, they are scratch built. I used cardboard stripes then I glued wood sticks. The central part is piece of cork wine bottle cap.

* Building time for 6 buildings

30mn for the drawings.
1h30 hour to cut the walls (and the windows the most difficult part).
1h30 to assemble the walls (including drilling of the walls and glueing toothpicks to strengthen the buildings).
30mn to glue the building on a base.
1h30 to texture the walls and the base.

* Texturing foamcard

I used either sealing or finishing paster. It's sold in large tube so it's easy to store.

Very nice, Olivier!

I think it was a very good idea to use pre-made roofs and doors. The finished project looks wonderful.

Those buildings you made are great. Are the long strips of wheat?/hedges a cut up door mat?

Absolutely. Nevertheless, the grey plastic base was awful so I flocked it and I also drybrushed the wheat.

What sizes of wheat strip do you find useful? Could you take a close up picture of the wheat's base that you flocked? :)

They are 8" long. 6" to 10" would be fine too.

ok it look very good .
I would only do some small stuff do make the terrain a ``very very good ``terrain .
1.I would use a better board ,not only with grass , it looks better if ther where some sand on it . Hope ypo know what I mean

2. adit some small stuff to the buildings  stuff like a small tree ,stack of wood, garden fence, dog kennel, wagons or cars .........

3. the buildings look a bit to shiny I would ink the walls with a beige r light brown.

that are only Ideas after  all your work is very good.

Where do you get the roof of the thatched roof ?
