Copplestone Rolls Royce vs CompanyB (scale comparisons)?
« on: January 27, 2012, 11:34:03 AM »
Hi All,

Does anyone have both the Copplestone and Company B Rolls Royce armoured cars? If so, how would you say they compare scale-wise. I've heard that the Copplestone one is on the small-size, but the CompanyB one that I have is hardly a giant.

I'd like to order from Copplestone if possible, but really need to have some idea of the differences.

Any help appreciated.

I have never seen the Company B one, but do yourself a favour and don't buy the Copplestone one. It looks tiny considering the theoretical crew size. Not a bit on the small side... Ridiculously tiny. I love the Copplestone range, but that was a big miss for me.

If you want a big one to flourish then get the Matchbox diecast. I have a couple and they look very well with my Copplestone minis.

Company B's Rolls Royce is 1/56.

I believe Copplestone's Rolls Royce is an earlier sculpt so a little on the small side. His latest vehicles are closer to 1/56.

Honestly both are top notch, the comparison is like BMW or an Audi.  Both quality cars, both rated well, both will suit you well.

As stated Copplestone slightly smaller, but if you are running Pulp figures of some sort (Copplestone, Pulp, GB, Hicks etc..), both will do fine.

Cheers guys.

The CompanyB one I have certainly looks the part, but the metal work in particular took some sorting out. The result is good but it is very pricey in the UK for what you get (IMO). It is also a touch fragile so I tink will eventually be based.
In general I prefer the quality of the Copplestone kits that I've had - the Garford Putilov etc. were beautifully cast and gave a great solid base for extra detailing.

My main issue is really one of scale.

I have some of the Matchbox die-casts but they are just a tad too big for my eyes  :) (didn't stop me buying a few though).

The matchbox RR armoured car is 1/48, too big (IMO) for 28mm. Remember this was a civilian car with an armoured body dropped onto the chassis, so it is a smallish vehicle.

The matchbox silver ghost is spot on so I use these for my conversions. I have my own castings for the body. Working on two at the moment with solid wheel hubs and boys a/t guns as well as vickers. Probably going to do one as desert yellow in R Irish Hussars (8th) and one in Caunter (one of my favs!)

I need to find someone who sells loose Lewis guns - don't fancy sculpting and casting one.

here's shots of my prototype - sorted the wheels since then and taken on board comments made in my origonal post.

regards

BB

Nice kitbash!. One slight problem Bruce. The 1920 and the 1924 Model of the RR came with disc, not wire wheels.

I do sell them :) - I am Battlewagons - they retail at £78.50 as finished models - your choice of unit and cammo.

I know about the wheels - thanks - doing two with solid wheels at present, that was just a prototype to see how it would come together.

Does anyone know who does a Lewis guns as I am looking for some.

Thats for a painted and assembled model with a figure. All my pieces are one offs and generally are bought by collectors.

It reflects the mastering costs, casting and then the assembling and painting costs.

Company B do them, and currently have them back in stock.

Thanks for that - I will order up some from Company B.

As regards the price, what do people think wargamers would pay for a finished piece made to order?
