But i'm sure gizzard is singular... i.e. birds etc only have one of them....
And that, is about as far as any sort of critique goes....

Top top notch stuff, as always...

Colours for his trews?
Paterned fabrics all round?
Oriental Silk to match his dragon?

Or white calico with that wonderful texture?
As this forum now recognises, the late 18th early 19th saw some very flouncy shirts indeed!

NO DRESSES!!!!!!!!!  I will probably go for more traditional pirate garb, dirty linen trousers mate.

That dragon tattoo.  :-* Absolutely amazing!

thanks pal

:o you are crazy my friend...
wonderful. Well done. Tatoos are great! Receipe?  :P

Shush don't tell or Snorbitz the Immpossible Goat with hear you and I will get in trouble...............

receipe....hmm, just add a little of the base skin colour to all the paint you use to do the tattoos and then when done re-highlight the skin with very thin glazes of the sking tone to make the tatt bed in and look natural and worn, unless you want it to look fresh then no skin tone in any colour and make sure you glaze red around the tattoo

Yes, cracking work on the tattoos! :-* :-* :-* I have a dragon too, though not as big, on my left arm....All because of my fascination with pirates since the age of six. Well done sir :)

thanks pal....me too

No worries. I should have just looked him up in the first place.
He's looking awesome. Brilliant brushwork.

Quick question:

I know you always paint in sections, so pantaloons come after skin etc etc, but heres the thing, is he wearing socks?
Or more accurately, stockings of some sort?

As Ive just been looking at him again and to me, he looks bare shinned.....
Wondered if you'd give it any thought? As your skin tones so far are really very very good indeed....
and the thought of matching them may be a " a bit of a bugger"....

So class, "Did Tortuga based Pirate Ex-gunners mates of the mid 1700's wear socks? Stockings? Or something all together more, well, piratey?"

Discuss.....

Great stuff, Dee!
But just a concern on the tatoos. Aren't they too intricate? And where are all the naked women and mermaids? ;)

I think you would have been hard-pressed to find any tattoo on a pirate, simple or intricate. Tattooing wasn't a fashion among European sailors until James Cook's voyages to the South Seas. His men (and even one of his officers) came back covered in Polynesian tattoos and the fad spread like wild fire (and is still going strong). A 'Pirate of Tortuga' is about a hundred years too early, unfortunately.

But hell, pirates don't need to be historical. They are their own genre and inhabit their own universe that doesn't have to obey the rules, as Johnny Depp has shown us. That guy is so cool. But the thing I am most impressed with is not the tattoos (great though they are), it's his chest hair. That's blinkin' marvellous.  :)

I'll ignore that first correct part and just settle for this one...
And I do agree on the chest hair!
