Dinosaurs in 28mm
« on: February 13, 2012, 09:57:33 PM »
Can anyone please recommend sources of 28mm dinosaurs for pulp, or prehistoric gaming...? Plastic, vinyl, metal, doesn't matter. What is everyone using....?

Reaper Miniatures has metal (and saw that today they started carry plastic dinosaurs).
Copplestone has metal in their "Lost Worlds" line.
HLBS also has some in 28mm.
Rattrap has a giant sloth and some Sabertooths.

I have some from each line if you'd like pictures of them next to a 28mm figure (except the Collecta plastics which Reaper started carrying).

cheap and smaller ones:

a bit expensive but very nice and high detailed ones (about 1:40 scale):

Here is a thread I posted in Nov.2011.

Lots of pics, to give you some ideas.
Most of these are smaller ones.
Hopes this helps.

The Hobby Lobby chain carries some of the Papo dinosaurs in the US, including the T Rex in the photo. They cost about $24 USD, but Hobby Lobby is awfully fond of posting 40% off coupons at regular intervals, so you won't have to pay that much if you're willing to wait for the coupon.

For smaller dinosaurs - raptors, trodons, compsognathus, that sort of man-sized or smaller biting critter - HLBS is awesome.

Their velociraptors are straight out of the first Jurassic Park movie, heaps of character and really nice sculpts and casts. The smaller compies and mini-raptors are great in a flock-of-evil-chickens way.

For bigger dinos the plastic kid's toys work nicely, but for little stuff to lurk in the undergrowth and keep players jumpy, get thee to HLBS.

Acheson Creations is also worth a mention for metal/resin 28mm beasties. They have an expanding range of dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals. I don't actually own any of their dinos, but I have a few figures from their sculptor's previous range - two sabre-tooth tigers and some big hunting dogs - that are very nicely done, and the new stuff from Acheson looks even better. Their family group of four Styracosaurus for $24 looks like an incredible deal, and will be gracing my painting table at some point this year when I tear myself away from the Russian Civil War long enough to get back to Lost World Pulp!

I found it a very useful resource.

Tamya do some as well, six ?veloceraptors? in a box.

I think Jimbibbly was posting about them the other day, good for putting VSF riders on apparently. So that might give an idea of size...

Reaper now has a whole range of them in pre-painted plastic.  They look pretty good.  Sizes are listed on the individual models page.

To me, the best Velociraptors are those from Ralpartha range

here is mine, easily converted because the lead is soft and fine to bend. The arms are separated and there is 3 poses. The price is £6.5. They were cheaper last year, i think !

For the big stuff, use the cheap plastic models.

Big orangey-predator is plastic, foreground is Wirelizard's metal baby T-rex.

My large plastic brachi:

And three plastic and one metal/resin. The anklyosaur and the baby brachi are my plastic. The styrachisaur and the triceratops are Wirelizard's. The styrach is metal/resin.

All of the plastic dinos are repainted save the organe-y T-rex. Hope that helps.

The best source I've found is raiding my daughter's toy box. Tip: best to do this while they are not home!

Both of the dinos below came pre-painted, although I may have touched them up a little...

HAVE FUN!

Very nice.  That steggy looks like it's tame.
