The Scheltrum Russo-Balt and White Armored Cars I built earlier do not have rivet detail, so I added some using Surface Details from Archer Fine Transfers:
http://www.archertransfers.com/SurfaceDetailsMain.html

Archer Surface Details are cast resin shapes on water-slide clear decal film. Cut what you need and apply where desired. A very nice product I was waiting to try.

I had a sheet #AR88009 Large Fastener Heads .035, .025, and .015 inch diameter. (Archer provides sheets of just .030 and .015 inch diameter rivets under the heading "Bridge Rivets.)

I used the .025" on the Russo Balt and the .015 on the White AC. Application was fairly easy except the decals kept falling of the Russo Balt bare resin body. Although thoroughly scrubbed and cleaned to remove any casting release compounds, the decals just would not stick! I'd get one done, move onto the next and the first one was gone.

I thought maybe I should have sprayed or brushed on gloss coat first, but it was too late for that.

After some online research, I applied Micro Set decal setting solution, which seemed to work, then Micro Sol solution, which worked like a charm. Woody at Archer confirmed the use of Micro Sol to enhance adhesion, but also said gloss coat or priming first would help, too. So I primed the White AC before applying the rivets. Priming did improve adhesion, but I used Micro Sol as well.

Here are photos showing rivet detail. Next is to prime and paint the Russo-Balt, and paint the White AC. I'm hoping the smaller size rivets on the White AC will still show up after painting.

Thanks for the tip(s). I didn't know that such a product existed and it looks remarkably useful.

Hi, superb, i'm hitting a similar problem detailing up some models for ww1 in East Africa, it's a simple technique but simply using small dabs of PVA seems to work, see link, hope it's of use.

I have tried the same technique but found that PVA/Elmer's would spread a bit, so I typically use epoxy glue.

With glue I can only do one side of a vehicle at a time until the glue dries. With the decals, I can do the entire vehicle in one sitting.

I like that the rivets are all uniform in size - please post close-up photos when you have it in primer.

Nice.  The rivet decals work like a charm, and will even cast well if used on a master model.  I use microsol, then hit it with a testers flat coat before painting.  Works great!
