Superb Lady J!

Thanks.  I forgot to include a bigger picture of Lady J on her own.  There are some problems with the painting on some of the areas, but I am pleased with the overall colour scheme.

Francisco and Santiago Ortega are on the painting table at the moment, but real life is getting in the way.  I hope to have a few more Malifaux bits done over the next week or two.

I got distracted from painting the Ortegas by painting some objective bits and pieces for my "Schemes" and "Strategies".

Not the most exciting miniatures that I have ever painted, but necessary and good for narrative.

Some Ortegas next.

Like those objective markers - how did you do the letters on the first six? They look very cool.

Looking forward to the Ortegas!

The letters come from a model railroad signage set.  I would have preferred to use numbers but the letters will do.

Looking forward to the Ortegas!

Real life is slowing things a bit right now, but Santiago is finished bar basing, with Nino not that far behind.

Malifaux crew progress has been slow, although other projects have been flying along so thats something.

Just to prove that this project is still ticking over, here is the finished Santiago Ortega.

Im not sure who will be next.  It will likely be Nino Ortega or Lady Justice totem, the Scale of Justice.

Nice, Cheetor! Love the coat, and the blue of the trousers - could you spill the beans on the recipe for them? Lovely shading and the style is so crisp and clean - even more than usual with this one! The gang is going to look great when it's all done.

Unfortunately many of the paints are from the "old" GW range, but here goes anyway:

Denim:
Black undercoat
GW Necron Abyss
GW Devlan Mud
GW Necron Abyss/Fenris Grey mix
GW Necron Abyss/Fenris Grey/ Game Color Off White mix
Game Color Off White edging to worn areas.

Coat:
GW Calthan Brown
Devlan Mud
GW Calthan Brown
GW Calthan Brown/Khemri Brown mix
GW Calthan Brown/Khemri Brown mix/Game Color Off White
GW Gryphonne Sepia wash

Pretty straightforward stuff I reckon.  All colours simply layered on in reasonably thin coats.  I hope that that helps.

That definitely helps, Cheetor - thank you! I have lots of different browns, always looking for the right ones for naturalistic colours, but Calthan Brown was never one I picked up. Believe it or not, our local store still has all the old GW paints alongside the new ones, so I'll pick up a pot tonight when I'm there - oh, and Khemri Brown. The denim looks like a good recipe - it's going in my notebook!
Looking forward to more - in particular to seeing the whole gang together when they're all done. Lovely project, this.

I'm loving this thread, Cheetor...  :-*

I've got a primed ortega warband so your denim recipe is much appreciated...  ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

Nino Ortega has been sitting half painted on the table since early March ~30 other miniatures have gone through the entire process in front of him.

I do hope to get him done soon though.  The denim recipe will be slightly varied for him :)

You have some very lovely figures there. The Judge has always been one of my favorites and you've really done him justice (pun intended).

The older Malifaux figures have so much character and they are a pleasure to paint (I've painted 10 crews). Unfortunately I can't say the same for many of the newer ones although some of them are on par with the older ones.

Really nice work.  I have several figures as I think they are really well done, but to be honest I am intimidated by them, so they sit on my paint table.  I really don't have too much time to paint, with work and family stuff.  But I might just drag my figures to the front of the queue for a change of pace.

I manged to get a pair of figures for this project finished on time for my first Malifaux tournament last Monday (which I actually won, which was genuinely unexpected).  I havent had a chance to take any photos of the two additions yet so in the meantime I will put up a photo of a game that I played on Tuesday using my nearly completed cemetery terrain.

Thanks.  The Judge has an interesting look.  There is something quite anime/manga about the figure that I find quite appealing (even though I am not really an anime fan).

The older Malifaux figures have so much character and they are a pleasure to paint (I've painted 10 crews).

In all honesty while I have found the Malifaux figures pleasant to have finished, I found them troublesome to paint.  The detail is fine and tough to get right.  The casting quality of the Wyrd stuff is a little disappointing I find too.  Not that it has stopped me from buying a load more :)

Thanks.  I absolutely get why you would find the figures intimidating: the detail is fine and there tends to be quite a lot of it.  I usually paint in batches of about three to five models.  For Malifaux I have reduced that to batches of only two or even just one model.  More than that and I find that I can get bogged down.

Overall my Malifaux output is a little slow as a result, but at least it is reasonably steady.  Try one of the figures that you have (a minion would be better than a master to start as they tend to have less detail), whats the worst that could happen?  Even if you make a mess of it, I guarantee that you will learn something form the experience.

I played in my first Malifaux tournament just over a week ago.  The games went well and I learned a lot about playing the rather convoluted but (finally) somewhat satisfying game.

Part of the reason that I decided to enter was so that I was forced to put some paint on some Malifaux figures that I had been avoiding.  I managed to get a couple of figures finished on time for the tournament, the first of which is this big guy:

I had to rush to get the figure finished on time and there are some parts that I should really go back to fix, but at this stage I am unlikely to bother.

More info and photos are on my blog. My Malifaux progress has picked up again so I hope to be updating here again soon.
