When and where for the CWC gammes I wnt to run in later 2012

Looking for a good year to put a "Cold War  gone Hot" setting for CWC.

1. Shortly after WW2 thru the Berlin Blockade (1946-1948)

2.  The Korean War expands (1950 through 195?)

3.  Hungary/Suez (1956)

4.  Bay of Pigs/Cuban Missile Crisis (1961/1962)

5.  Vietnam War era (1965'ish)

6.  1967 War in the Middle East

7.  Pueblo/Czechoslovakia (1968)

8. 1973 War in Middle East

9.  South Vietnam falls

10.  1979 - The Shah falls and all that chaos

I want something with diverse AFVs for my planes to bomb in Air War C21 and hard fought "correlation of forces" for CWC (and, heck, potential for an alien invasion (FWC) even!) so I am thinking the  1950's heavily favor the Communists (WP formed 1955 I believe) and as you introduce the Abrams, Leopard 2, and Challenger 2 it tends to favor NATO it would be the 1970's or 1960's where the "best" balance may be found.

If this war was strictly Air war oriented I'd say the 1960's and if it was Naval I would say the 1970's - thoughts on a "best balanced" setting oriented more towards Land War combat?

Gracias,

Glenn

Personally I'd go for the era of the Berlin Crisis, Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis... 1959 - 1962. You've got anything from WW2 kit to the latest in then contemporary military hardware. The US army is hampered by ROCID and most of its infantry still waiting for the M14 and M60. ATGWs are still just in the future and only the US Navy has air to air missiles that mostly work... on some aircraft.

It's less of a technology gap than later and nuclear weapons less devastating (although folk might be less reluctant to toss them about). It was a transitional period all over, so you won't get a much more diverse mix of equipment across the board.

The downside is that some vehicle types might not be available and substitutes are required, like the M113 for the M59, although the M113 was just coming into service.

I'm currently working on TO&Es etc for the 'Cuban Missile War' for my blog... a few days to a week tops and there'll be a ruck of info up there for you.

This year is of course the 50th Anniversary of the Missile Crisis.  :)
