Another pirate game (2)
« on: March 18, 2012, 12:01:12 PM »
We had an other game yesterday and we decided it would be a continuation of the game we did two weeks ago - but on a larger table !

It was intended for initiation, so different players took part in the fight.

If you remember, in the previous game two groups of pirate came ashore to attack a colonial plantation and try to capture the niece of the governor.
The previous story here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=38882.0

The plantation... and the very large table :

From the sea :

In the island fort, a French garrison waits for unknown enemies (who will never come there!)

First fight in the day (a fight which had not been finished in our previous game), French sailors attack a pirate ship which has only four men on deck. The sailors capture the pirate ship.

On the shore, the first group of pirates kill some of the governor's soldiers...

…but a bit later they do not dare to fight the governor's mounted guards on open terrain. The cavalrymen do not want to enter the wood on horseback, so both parties stay where they are and shout insults at each other.

Far from there, a new French ship comes with some troops.

But a new pirate ship is arriving too, and a strong one !

Naval battle between the two ships. The pirates are lucky, their guns make lots of damage, the pump of the French ship is destroyed. A moment later, the French ship began to sink.

The crew and soldiers go on the life boats. They row 10 cm each game turn, the coast is 1.80 m away...
The game goes fast and they will reach the coast before the end, but while they row they are no use to the governor. And without their ship, no reinforcement from the fort can go to the plantation...

…while the second group of pirates (those who were in the jungle) are now played by a new player who decides to attack at any cost.  They run to the main house, where some gunners come hastily to try to stop them. An awful fight to the last man, almost everyone gets killed !

Two pirates remaining of the first group managed to get rid of the governor's cavalry. They enter the house from the other side and climb the stairs. The governor offers them his treasure, but they do not trust him. The governor must fight ! The governor fires a pistol and the pirate too, they both miss! Then they fight with swords!
But the only survivor of the fight under the porch, the sergeant gunner, arrives at the bottom of the stairs and kills the other pirate. The pirate alone, caught between the governor and the sergeant, accepts to surrender.

The governor has been very afraid, and still hesitates about what to do of the courageous pirate.

Second that - love the fort too - that is a fair amount of ocean to sail around in, not one for the average living room then... always good to see pirates with ships.

The fort is a model (but slightly smaller than scale) of an old fort in Florida.
Explanations (in French) from the guy who made it, here:

Gosh it's even better than I originally thought and spot on - as I have been looking for ideas for a Vauban inspired fortification that can also be used for pirate games and certainly an imposing ediface with all that canonry, the emplacements beyond the wall are a fantastic addition. Thank you for the link.
